Boycot SODA BAR until they bring back the POOL

Soda Bar has gotten rid of their pool table because it was drawing the "wrong crowd," and now they are talking about serving brunch! Why can't a bar just be a bar?! We need a pool table! F**k them!

I was surprised to see that Soda bar got rid of their pool table, but honestly, it was really awkwardly placed and made it difficult to get outside without getting hit with a pool cue to the ribs. Plus, they needed the extra seating. Besides, with the addition of the lounge, a DJ, extra outdoor space, longer hours, and now .... brunch! Woo hoo! I say, long live Soda Bar!

I agree with Amy, brunch would be great! Doesn't Mooney's have a pool table?

I just realized that I haven't been there since they got rid of the pool table. It was a nice to place to go and shoot some stick. Too bad it's gone.

Why cant they put the pool table in the new space thats wide opren?

the pool table represented much more than a game (not that that isn't enough)... indeed it did draw a "different" crowd, which made soda bar a diverse place, not just racially, but socio-economically and by age. there were some classy cats that hung out at that table, and they will never be seen again. additionally, it was a way to walk into a room of strangers and an hour later walk away with some new pals. that table was helping to make proho a real community, rather than just a collection of hipsters seeking a new brunch spot!! this, after the loss of muddy waters, may be too much for me to bear...

i really don't have any opinion about the fucking pool table or brunch...i just like soda bar and i think boycotting a business because it's growing and changing is a little harsh. jeez, i give up. ok? i think i'm too sensitive for these message boards ...

I'm with the pro pool table faction on this one.... don't really have any use for another brunch spot and can't think of another place close by with a table...and the social aspect of playing will be missed...and I like that it drew a diverse group of people.

Having said that - I will probably still got here for a drink - but I won't be happy about it.

yea, ok, the woman there wis a bit odd, but come on, this is nyc - every neighborhood needs some characters. and if you were nice to her, she could actually be extremely nice.

but i cant say i really miss her, i just miss having a place to hang out. i am going to have to take my own coffee to the bench this summer to watch the neighborhood roll by...

i've always wondered about that place! what is the crowd like? are there a lot of kids? do people bring their own cues? do they serve alcohol?

huh? "more tables than meet the eye"? is there a secret back room or basement lair? i think you may have confused your expressions.

anyhow, of course its nice to have a big pool hall nearby, but it is not a BAR! can you even drink there? no, right?

Is Brownstown the spot on Flatbush near the Q train? Is it a bar as well as a pool hall? (cause playing pool sober isn't as fun)

That pool hall is ok. It can definitely use a renovation but the tables do serve their purpose......

I like Brownstone, especially the ping pong. But nothing beats a bar size pool table plus a beer.

It's not a bar, I used to bring beer in but I don't know if that's ok there anymore.

They also have air hockey!

I have also played air hockey there. There were kids there (I was there in the early evening) but overall, the crowd when I went seemed very mixed. I definitely plan on going back. If they have a "don't ask don't tell" policy regarding beverages in brown bags, that's all the better!

1 as a owner its my duty to protect my patrons and emploee from a morans who can obuse them physicly and verbaly and i dont know if you Putz want toget punch in the face like Robert my barthender did ,becose he was protecting one lady in that nigt and them he was so angry when Robert refuse served him ,he broke glass door and all people who was at a bar left and i dont think you Putz help Robert, and offering boicot without knowing all details its at list stupid

I may choose to spend my hard earned cash at the Beast - as I had an encounter with a less than polite bartender at Soda this past week...and I discovered the Beast's fried manchego...I think it was a sign from a higher power....

I went to soda friday and had a good time and the food was good too.

Its too bad the bartender got assaulted, I hope nobody just stood around, did you catch the guy?

Uh, Toly is trying to keep trouble out of his bar, and keep his customers free from pool-related violence so they can relax and have a good time. Who could have a problem with that? Why don't you open your own bar with a pool table, and have all the joy that brings for yourself? I'm so tired of people who are clueless about the responsibilities of owning a business and the stress that entails, whining like babies, or "putzes". If "Putz" got hurt in Soda, the first thing {s}he'd do is sue, I'm sure. Why can't you give Soda some credit for watching your back, and support them? Jeez. Grow up. Brownstone Billiards is only a few blocks away on Flatbush, if you want to play pool.

Businesses are not stagnant entities, making changes by responding to events and upgrading {trying a brunch menu} is a positive thing, and Toly should be commended for adding new options. How do you know Soda brunch won't be really delish and suit you just fine?

Mr. Smith, while awaiting my arrival at Soda Bar recently my boyfriend observed that the owner of Soda bar is European (and also, incidentally, female). If the post seemed *unintelligible* to you, it may be because Toly is not completely fluent in English. At any rate, it made perfect sense to me.

Uhh, the owner is a man, not a woman. Anatoly Dubinsky. He also owns East River Bar in Williamsburg which, incidentally, still has a pool table.

I wish there was a pool table but sje makes a good point about liability, its too bad.

So how about a foosball table? What kind of crowd would that attract?

I think that sje makes an excellent case. I, for one, would love to see a Pac-Man machine...

Well, maybe it was his wife or co-owner something. Even the acoustic guy who was performing that night referred to her as the owner, and she was definitely female and spoke with an accent that was hard to place. Anyway, it's hardly here nor there.
