Who knows how to drive to Rego Park from PS? What's the best way and how long does it take?
I don't know if this is the best route, but it's one that avoids highways and seems fairly direct:

I just went to TJ's in Rego Park. Parking wasn't easy (lots of circling around - probably ok during the week).

I spent $150 for one person. Ay yi yi. My name is Flexi and I'm a TJ's addict

    Flexi-

next time, don't bother with that tiny TJ's parking lot-just go in the back and park in the Sports Authority lot-tons of room back there and perfectly legit. We don't even both with the TJ's lot anymore.

We went last week and spent $178 and i am contemplating going again today or tomorrow.

well, I ended up right in front, but I will check out the back next time. Thanks for the tip.

at least you spent $178 on more than one person!

    Any new finds?

    I'm a sucker for:

    - penne arrabiata (frozen and microwaveable)
    - gnocchi in gorgonzola (same)
    - ravioli in fridge - gorgonzola, spinach/ricotta and portobella varieties
    - frozen potato pancakes
    - roasted and salted fancy mixed nuts
    - dried montgomery cherries
    - shrimp gyoza (frozen)
    - pork dumplings
    - chicken dumplings

Will have to try some of those things when we go this weekend. Damn, I need to buy a freezer for all the stuff i want from there.

    OK flexi-here are some of our faves;

    -Tempura Shrimp-frozen
    -mac and Cheese-frozen (oh-so good! 4 cheeses!)
    -Chocolate peanut butter cups
    -chocolate covered peanuts
-canned, no salt added corn (it's amazingly fresh and crisp for canned!)
    -frozen cubes of smashed garlic
-freshly made con and crab chowder soup (up front by the freshly made sandwiches)
    -Trader Joes organic peanut butter
-Teriyaki shrimp or chicken rice bowl
    -Kung Pao chicken rice bowl
-Shrimp stir fry (frozen, large bag)

I'm dyin' to know how much natural almond butter (think peanut butter, but... not.) costs at TJ's. I bought a jar from my nearby Key Food without looking at the price. I got home, inspected the jar and damned near had a heart attack: $9.99! So if TJ's is a few bucks less, it'd be worth a side trip for me. :)

Well, I don't know what almond butter cost-but, I have a 16 oz. jar of TJ's organic creamy peanut butter made with valencia peanuts and it costs $2.99

I would assume almond butter would be pricer, i can look when I go this weekend. Could even pick up a jar for you.

Honestly, just looking at the price for me would be a tremendous help as I jut bought this jar a week or so ago. My husband works near the TJ's in Union Square, and he can just pick me up a new jar there when this pricey one runs out... as long as they don't charge $10, too. :)

i called the store in Queens to ask how much almond butter is-they said they have regular and raw and they are both $4.99 for a 16 oz. jar.

Oh, thank you! You rock. :)

(And now I know where to send the husband for both natural peanut butter AND almond butter. I assume cashew butter too, if they sell it. Yay!)

Is Trader Joe's opening up at Court Street and Atlantic Avenue anytime soon or am I going to have to kick the crap out of someone?
  • longtimesloper

Anyone else think the old Eckerd's at the corner of 5th Ave and 9th St would make a great TJ's?
  • longtimesloper
    longtimesloper
yep-it sure would have! or, how about the Aaron's store down on 5th avenue/ that would have been a great spot. Oh well

Will the one on Atlantic Avenue have more floor space than the postage stamp on Union Square in Manhattan?

As far as the food and the price goes, I can get behind TJ's, but it drives me absolutely INSANE to spend ninety minutes trying to get a box of cereal and then standing in a line not unlike one you'd have found on Ellis Island in 1910 and having people constantly pushing past me in various directions and running over my feet with shopping carts and causing traffic jams in the aisles because there's no room for one cart to pass another. If they can't manage crowds in this one any better, FORGET IT.

Went to TJ's this morning. Spent $223.00!

Anyway, yes, they have cashew butter, almond butter and even macademia nut butter! Enjoy!

I'm so happy that I'm stocked up for a weekend inside - snow, Oscars, DVDs and TJs (I hit the wine store the week before).

I forgot to add that I love their cherry jelly (but not the organic one, which tastes awful).
