Fuk, what's wrong with me, I'm so ashamed.

I think I'm going through an early mid-life crisis. I just bought skinny jeans.

Damn, H&M propaganda!

In my defense (if there can be one) they claim to be straight leg, but no, really they're just plain stove pipe jeans.

Good thing I went to the gym today.....

Wait, what's the difference between skinny jeans and straight-leg jeans?

I think it's totally random. What was called straight leg in the 90's would be wide-leg nowadays with this whole 80's comeback. Makes no sense.

Well, all my skinny jeans have a 6.5 or 7in diameter on the opening at the bottom of each leg. That seems to be the standard across brands.

Obviously, that means the bottom is smaller than the knee part. Straight leg have a bottom of the leg size that is closer to, but not necessarily the same as, the knee area. Wide leg has the same size all the way down from the top of the thigh (sometimes a little wider at the bottom), and flare and boot-cut get narrower from thigh to knee, and then get wider again towards the bottom of the leg.

Why did I just type all that??

I appreciate the info, caaahyoko - I didn't realize "skinny" is a synonym for "tapered." And every store has a different name for these styles, so it's really hard to keep track. I just bought cords from JCrew (on sale for $30!) after trying on "City Fit" and "Favorite Fit." I have no idea what the first fit is; the second, which I bought, appears to be straight-leg. So why not just call it that?

That's just annoying! Like the fancy names make the pants fit better

Well, fancy names do make lousy coffee taste better. And they allow those stores to charge by the syllable.

    hmmm....

what do you suppose the ramifications would be if everyone on here had to post a picture of themselves instead of a witty (like mine) avatar?

i predict that it would change the way we interact with each other and....

bring about the downfall of society as we know it.

    ok, so who's first?

Last time I bought pants a couple months ago (after losing enough weight to make my old pants constantly fall off) I bought Slim Straight 514™ Jeans. Whatever that is. Their "skinny" one is 511, so I guess I only have one foot on the dark side.

haha the levi's 511 isn't as tight as those

Eh. Oh well. The 511 is billed as "skinny" and "extra slim", the 514 is billed as "straight" and "slim" ... so, I dunno. When I was at the store the 511 was more expensive and looked skinnier to my eye, so skinny in fact that I didn't even bother trying them on and just opted for the 514s, which I am happy with.

oh yea, they are skinnier than the one's you got, daver. i meant they aren't as skinny as the ones in the picture caseo posted.

the 511's are my jam, and they're always like $35 at Macy's so I'm a happy camper when I get random gift certificates and coupons from those fine folks. 510's though are the "Super Skinny". Those mofos are tight.

BTW -- I've seen a lot of thread titles this week. Most of them banal or uninspired. Not this one. Strong work!
