HAVE YOU SEEN ME?

My name is Samantha and I was stolen during a break-in at my home in Windsor Terrace/South Slope on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 sometime between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. I’m an eight year old Maltese, spayed and weigh seven pounds. I have a brown nose and a tiny nick on the end of my tongue. I have had several teeth extracted and need additional dental work as soon as possible. I may be wearing a red leather collar with two vaccination tags on it. The person who took me also stole my bright yellow carrier. If you’ve seen me or know anything about me, please call 917-627-0292 or the Brooklyn 72nd Precinct at 718-965-6311. GENEROUS REWARD.

    oh, no! Poor baby!

I'm wondering if she was dognappped, or simply escaped during the break in. A good search around the neighborhood is in order.

No, she was definitely stolen. I was hoping she'd escaped to a neighbor's apt or something until I realized they had also taken her carrier. But that's ALL that was stolen! She's by far the worst and most important thing they could have taken from me but still...It's all so bizarre and I'm just heartbroken and sick with worry.

I'm so amazingly sorry to hear about this. I live in South Slope (on Prospect Ave) and will definitely keep my eye out. I have a 10 month old pup and feel sick just reading your entry. How did they break in?

I went out to Animal Control on Linden Blvd this morning. She wasn't there but I filed a full report with them as well as with the ASPCA, Humane Society, Bide a Wee and BARC. There's a post in the Pets section of Bklyn Pets at Craig's List. I've started reaching out to the media this evening and will continue that over the next few days.

Prospect Park Animal Clinic, Animal Kind, FidoBrooklyn and the 24 Hour Brooklyn Emergency Clinic have been alerted. Her groomer has a flyer and is supposed to put her on their website soon.

I have two Maltese dogs so when I read this posting I just started to cry.

geez.. If someone broke in to my home they could have everything in there but leave my dogs.

I pray that this terrible story turns out to have a happy ending,

    terrible, terrible, terrible.

my cousin's home in manhattan was once broken into, and while the culprits left the dogs, they took the kids' blankies.

Oh, veets, don't cry, you'll just get me blubbing! You obviously understand the Maltese love...when a friend of mine was considering one, I told her "Prepare to have your heart stolen and carpets ruined."
    they took the kids' blankies.
What the unholy hell?? WTF is WRONG with some people? Frickin' doucheholes.

Yosimite Samantha, I was thinking maybe you should try contacting all of the vets in Brooklyn. If these jerks sell your dog to someone they may take it to a vet. Maybe you could fax them a picture of your dog so they could keep an eye out? Here's a list of vets in Brooklyn.

And these sites might help too.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and Samantha!

    Subject: hmmm

sounds suspicious. has anyone in the building complained about barking?

I keep thinking about this and how upset I'd be if somebody catnapped one of my babies.

I was also wondering if somebody was complaining about barking or poop or if you had somebody else very mad at you (recent breakup, etc.) who retaliated by going after something you care so much about

It's a small building and nobody has ever complained. I always take plastic bags when we walk and she's very good about peeing and pooping close to the curb.

Samantha were there other "things" taken from the apartment?
That was what I assumed from your post but obviously the dog was your main concern with this posting.

If I am understanding the situation there would be no reason to assume it was some grudge. maltese dogs are adorable, friendly and portable.

No, that's what's so crazy! They stole Samantha and her carrier. And nothing else.

That is crazy and somehow even sadder.

So back to the other thought.. It sounds like this is someone who at least knew you had a dog even if they don't know you.

I just saw a few of your posters on PPW. I also looked down every stairwell on my way to and from yoga.

I hope she turns up soon.

My breakups have always been amicable and my current boyfriend is living in CA (long story) and loves Samantha dearly. My interactions in my building and around the neighborhood have always been friendly. The neighbors have never complained to me about Sam. Believe me, I've been wracking my brains to think of ANY possibilities but I'm at a loss. I'm so non-confrontational I'm surprised I'm allowed to live in NYC. Hell, I'm even nice online!

Don't beat yourself up on this one. This situation is just beyond logical reasoning. The evil that defines someone that would do this is beyond the understanding of a normal, nice, ethical loving person like you are.

People are just trying to help on the forum so please don't take anything being said the wrong way..nothing is being said "against' you. I think people just can't wrap their minds around something like this happening.. especially people who live with pets and love them beyond any emotion they themselves even thought they could have for a pet.

I hope the daily News story sweeps a really wide net and gives you results on this.

I'm confused (and too lazy to read through all the chatter on the first page).

What happened? Besides for your poor pooch, was anything else missing? What all was taken from your apartment?

(And no don't tell me to read the Daily News to find out, because that rag rarely reports reality).
