    i've been referring to south brooklyn (which includes pros. hgts) as SoBro for a while. fortunately, it's not catching on. i like PH for neighborhood moniker as it is very OC.

    Subject: well now

    I think I read that, in the olden days, anything south of Flatbush used to be called "South Brooklyn." Now it's all balkanized.

    I've always used "The PH." Mainly, because I like to tease my fiance, who loves The OC. The world stops for that damn show.

    Whats wrong with you people?

    Cant you just call it Prospect , thats what is has been and always will be. The "Heights" part is just a maketing ploy so people think "Brooklyn Heights", but that neighborhood sucks!

    THe name of the neighbothood is PROSPECT HEIGHTS that is it no nickname needed. This has been a real Brooklyn neighborhood for years. You can move in to someone elses area and change the name. You Yuppies may have ruined downtown brooklyn, by you ain't gonna ruine Prosect Heights

    It's happening all over the country, dear Guest. Not just in our little neck of the woods. How nice if we were so powerful.

    ::flagellates self for destroying neighborhood::

    But it's true, at this rate we're all going to have to move to Sheepshead Bay to maintain our wireless lifestyles. ShoBo?

    wait, what did the yuppies do to downtown brooklyn? alls i can see is ratner's ugly metrotech center and the god-awful TGI Fridays that took gage & tollners space.

    and for what it's worth, i don't think anybody is seriously using special acronyms for the neighborhood. prospect hts in itself is a relatively small area, the worst legitimate abuse i've seen is realtors who try to call it 'park slope' just because they think they can get away with it.

    Subject: South Brooklyn

    The name South Brooklyn dates back to the years when Flatbush was a separate town, and Brooklyn was just the eastern tip of what is now Kings County. This helps explain why Williamsburg and Greenpoint are referred to as North Brooklyn. There's a plaque that marks the Brooklyn-Flatbush border at the Botanical Gardens, btw.

    Subject: I've traveled a good deal in BoFia

    Personally I've lived in CaProPa (Carlton b/w Prospect and Park) for a couple years now after a long stint in UFiSi (Union b/w 5th and 6th) and UpCaCa (Upstairs from the Cat Clinic)....

    (p.s. BoFia = Bars on Fifth Avenue)
