"Development should be in proportion to the surrounding buildings and infrastructure..."

Why? This idea is spoken like gospel, but I still haven't heard a convincing explanation for why this allegedly is. What's wrong with high-rise buildings alongside low-rise buildings? Never bothered me.

Ok... but within reason. That building is hideous! And it'll most likely be as much of a dump inside as it is on the outside.

The island of Manhattan is doing well. And it has attracted many visitors with its man-made landscape.
And the suburbs are not that centralized and are welcoming all.

Agreed that this place is gross, but downzoning probably wouldn't prevent this sort of thing from being built.

Most zoning laws don't dictate design, taste or "hideousness." They should dictate scale, but there are ways around this in any zoned area (i.e. purchasing "air rights" from other buildings, getting variances, etc.). Landmarking an area will put the brakes on this and dictate the style/design/taste factors, but as my post above stated, there's all kinds of other issues to deal with when you're talking landmarking an area, block, etc.

I love this fucking site, especially with its subjective post control. I was unaware of the term flame bait. What about WILL. Why is it always my fault. Do you truly believe it (If you do then you're not qualified to moderate) or are you using me as a scapegoat for your friends that cannot control their emaotions and WIIL themselves to posting a reply to a conscious republican TROLL like myself.
Favoritism goes a long way on this site. I guess I'd have to break bread with you @ your multi-star neighborhood cuisines before I can get away with some flamebait

Well, REGISTERED people, can get their potential "cool it" smackdowns via PM. You, being obstinate and unencumbered by our annoying little rules, get your spankings in public. It would just be a sad little clusterfuck if we didn't have you to hate!

I agree that this site is favored towards certain views and that there is sometimes a double-standard at work. But take it from an ardently pro-Atlantic Yards person: get used to it, as it's not going to change anytime soon.
