well i find saying you need to leave town because a neighborhood fair and parade is taking place to be equally stupid.

had you said you will try to stay off 7th avenue would be one thing, but suggesting that both or either are so unbearable that you can't even be in the same vicinity or neighborhood, seems downright idiotic, in fact.

Tsk tsk, the Fair police won't take kindly to those offensive words.

Why the hell do you care whether I wanted to leave town or not? Where did I suggest that "both are so unbearable" that I can't even be in the same vicinity? This is bordering on the insane.

Ftr- I don't hate parades or gay people and I'm glad I was out of town for both of those events. Mostly because large crowds of slow moving people make me want to punch someone, and because I am selfish and like having more parking (and less people around.)

I don't really think it makes someone rude or bigoted to not want to hang around during gay pride weekend or the 7th/5th/138574975th ave street fairs. Thats like saying I hate children because I get pissed at my neighbors herd of them outside screaming at 8AM on sunday.

    You hate children?

Arg! Don't cross the streams! The children hating thread is elsewhere!

Ok, I'll get off the gay/parade topic to agree with those who are bewildered with NYC street fairs. Block after block of socks, sheet sets, mop demonstrations, and general junk. At least this one had SOME interesting stalls selling screenprinted shirts with cool designs, but still.

The best part was the little girl singing in front of the Conservatory of Music.

I heard something this weekend that was a new one.
It was towards Flatbush, sterling, lincoln or st. johns I think. Police officer manning the dividers holds up pedestrians so the car waiting at the light can cross 7th. As car drives through, a guy pushes through crowd and crosses in front of car. Car slams on brakes, cop looks at guy and says "I thought I asked you to wait?" guy responds, "This is brooklyn, people shouldn't be driving cars."

I also prefer 5th avenue fair over 7th.
