There's a sign on the door saying something about it being seized by Marshals..... can't remember exactly. Sad, but not surprising given the high prices and limited opening hours.

Maybe Big Nose Full Body can open an even bigger wine bar now???

Lots of places have high prices and limited opening hours and don't get seized by Marshals.

It means the marshall came in and took the store. probably for a violation of some sort.

Don't the marshall's seize property to settle a debt of some kind? Usually taxes?

i just googled "chocolate girl park slope" and came across a link to their website, www.thechocolategirl.net. weird message - says the website's been suspended. i went to thechocolategirl.com too, but there's no such site.

they had just bought cafe 11's illy stuff, i think. maybe trying to improve business.

(i was a major cafe 11 fan. fairly ordinary beverages and sub-par baked goods aside, the couple that ran it couldn't have been nicer. they always had dog treats for my puppy. now who will dote on him?)

i digress. anyway, the best thing chocolate girl could have done to improve business would have been to hire someone to work on friday nights and saturdays. i respect religious jews' inability to work on shabbat, but how did they expect to build a customer base when they were closed on the most popular shopping day of the week?

It means they got to it before Daffy's or TJ Maxx.

siezed by marshals means they were either in arrears in property tax, sales tax or rent. Given they probably leased the store, my guess would be rent or sales tax or both.

The chocolate wasn't worthy of the price they charged.

They can't do that-they can't hire someone to work in their store on the sabbath. They would still be conducting business, whether it was their personal body there or not, business would still be being conducted in their name and that is a no-no.

i used to work for a rather large orthodox run company here in Brooklyn, and everybody had to be out of the office by a certain time on Friday nights, etc.. they also shut the entire place down for Jewish holidays.

And, there are other businesses in the area that close on Fridays early and on Saturdays and they still stay in business.

    LOL

Also, my fiance has been saying for months (the life of that store) that it would close due to the poor hours. I totally respect their religious views (Kosherdave!) but seriously, you can't expect to stay alive by only being open when everyone else is at work! I think I have seriously been past it twice when it was actually open and I live like 2 blocks away, walk by EVERY DAY on my commute!
