[ADMIN NOTE: We'll continue to link the pictures in this thread, but we're not going to display the thumbnails due to the subject matter - quite a few of which are close-ups of female anatomy of both paraders and passersby. There's some good parade photos in there as well, but we don't have the time to curate this collection, unfortunately. We're not prudes, and y'all can debate whether or not these photos are sexist ... bottom line is it's just a bit weird and creepy (especially the close-ups of female passersby).]

    Contrary to the bravado you show on this blog, your pictures are quite tentative. They reveal a shyness that would serve you better taking pictures of landscapes, if only your composition was better. If what Guvna says, "We go to the parade to check out ass!" then I think you need help in editing your work. If I didn't know this parade I would say the participants looked bored.
    The best street photogs make "contact" with their subjects, it heightens the risk and heightens the voyeuristic pleasure of the viewer.

    I'm not an expert at these things, but I do notice the signs of a potentially serious problem. In various threads I have seen many of the classic symptoms listed by the DSM-IV for a possibly dangerous paraphiliac of multiple diagnosis. The anti-social tendencies, exhibitionist offerings, various off-color comments, now the classic voyeurism inherent in the deviant crowd pictures zoomed up in the juvenile sexual format as posted above.

    Typical journeys from here according to experts go into tranvestic fetishism, issues of criminality and questions of mental stability.

    Just remember, there really are a lot of caring people here in this community and on this board as well. I hope there is already therapy ongoing, but if there isn't I would be happy to help you find some. There are also some members of this board with medical resources that may be able to help you out as well.

    Great pics, and I suspect that even in yer armchair you can tell the difference between your pics and some of the voyeur stuff posted above.

    This year was straight up bullshit!
    Back in the mid 90's, thats when the parade was the shit!
    Back then it was one big ass massive block party than took place going down eastern parkway, spilling down nostrand and flowing down flatbush! Now the parade is nothing but a police state fair! They even had police floats! SMH
    Now the parade officially starts around 1:15pm, as opposed to it kicking around 11am, during and before the 90's. Now the real floats came around 2pm and it was over around 3:33pm! Yesterday, I went to Ebbets Field to chill on Bedford at 3:44 and around that time the buses was running up and down bedford! Back in the 90's the buses didn't strart running up and down bedford, until after dark, the block parties on nostrand would be up till sundown also! Plus back then everyone was allowed to march with the bands and wine up with the girls! I used to get much pussy back then around Labor day!
    Today the parade is way too political and commercial plus they cut down the time and the overall quality of the festivity!

    You'll notice in my flickrstream, JAH, that I shot a totally empty Eastern Parkway before the parade, around 11:30am. It did seem to get crowded a bit later this year, but around 2-3, we couldn't MOVE because of the crowds. And not serving alcohol has had a peaceful effect, no doubt.

    I think it's AWESOME that the police marched and played in the parade, showing unity and support for the Caribbean community. All cops I had a word or two with, {at intersections, asking how to get to a subway stop, due to crowds, etc} were pleasant and even joking around. I saw no tension or problems associated with cops, they were trying to herd simply gargantuan numbers of people in a peaceful manner, and I would say they did so successfully.

    Sorry you're nostalgic for the wild old days, but change is inevitable, friend. :->

    JAH, part of the reason why the route is emptier is that they don't let the crowd join in the parade route anymore, which used to be a really fun part. But it is with some good reason- in the past there were many incidents of people getting severely injured by the trucks when they got too close (often with no choice, because it was so crowded). They've also been trying to space the floats out more to avoid those kind of problems. But I think the politicians started coming through first at the usual time (11am) with the floats following later, which is how I always remembered it from the 90s (I have many fond memories of booing Giuliani at the parade ;)).

    Sorry, I can't resist sje. Your pictures are good and show a connection and empathy to the subject that is totally lacking in other pictures on this thread. Even if "We go to the parade to check out ass!" is the criteria they succeed. I think street photography is successful when the anthropologist, the sociologist, the voyeur, and the masturbator find them provocative.
