My brother and I lived upstairs from Nat Guido and my cousins, Joann and Georgette lived above the Horans. They are all excited about the blog but we wanted to know what reunion are you talking about? Is it just for certain people? We are all interested. All of us attended St. Johns and my brother, Eddie, was an altar boy. We all got married there.

Bob, what took you to China and other places - I had heard that you were a marine biologist. I have been a high school principal for 30 years in two different schools and currently am a principal at Nazareth Regional HS.

I REMEMBER THAT CRASH AS IF IT WAS YESTERDAY. AS USUAL I WAS NOT PAYING ANY ATTENTION TO MRS. FAZIO 5TH GRADE IN ST JOHNS. I WAS LOOKING OUT THE SCHOOL WINDOW. I ACTUALLY SA THE PLANE FLY OVER THE CHURCH ACROSS THE STREET. NOT KNOWING WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT. I REMEMBER SR. ROSE MARGARET COMING OVER THE LOUD SPEAKER ANY CHILDREN WITH SISTERS OR BROTHERS IN ST. AUGUSTINE PLEASE COME TO MY OFFICE. FOR MANY YEARS AND EVEN SOMETIMES NOW I HATE THE SOUND OF PLANES OVER ME WHEN THEY ARE LOUD. BEING A GOOD CATHOLIC LIKE WE WERE TAUGHT IN THAT SCHOOL AND SOMEWHAT BRAINWASHED I WOULD BLESS MYSELF EVERY TIME I WOULD HEAR A PLANE. I WAS SO YOUNG AND SO FRIGHTENED. THT WAS A MAJOR THING IN MY LIFE AND I NEVER FORGOT IT. I REMEMBER THE ONE BOY SURVIVED FOR ONE DAY. WE TALKED ABOUT THIS ON THE OTHER THREAD OR BLOG. IRONICALLY YEARS LATER I WORKED FOR METHODIST HOSPITAL AND THERE WAS THAT LITTLE BOYS MONEY ON A PLAQUE AND IT IS STILL THERE UNTIL THIS DAY IN THE CHAPEL. I REALLY COULD WRITE A BOOK ABOUT WHAT WE LIVED THROUGH IN THE REAL PARK SLOPE. THE EXPLOSION WE TALKED ABOUT "another trauma" BUT....HERE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT EVERYTHING TOGETHER. This is Bob Horan, alive and well and surving all recent kayaking adventures - though I just missed getting nailed by a huge sailboat in Rhode Island. I was passing on the inside of a large yellow marker that all of the boats in a sailing race had to pass. I heard a slicing noise behind me, turned and watch this boat make the tightest turn between me and the float. Six guys were sitting on the edge closest to me to balance the weight as they turned. I looked at the six guys without thinking much, just gave them a thumb's up and said politely with a smile "Thanks for not running me over."

Hey, talking about crashes and near crashes, does anyone (from 20th Street, Seventh Avenue or associated with Nat Guido) remember when a car was accidentally driven through the back wall of a garage on 7th Avenue and was hanging over Nat Guido's yard ? Someone gunnned the gas rather than braking. I remember it was a strange sight (I could see it from my yard). It must have really freaked Mrs. Guido.

To answer your question briefly (I hope), I got PhD in Biochemistry taught on college level but for a long time been working for FDA (title Biotechnology Specialist). I conduct quality audits of pharmaceutical companies in US and overseas and while I have gone to many European countries, I prefer China. For the last several years, I have given training at Peking University and this year taught in the first M.S. degree program in Regulatory Affairs at Peking University (China's most prestigious university; equivalent to Harvard University here). I have also traveled extensively in India and have been more places there than in US. Been to more places in China and India than many people from those countries. I have the opportunity to live in China for a couple of years but while it would be a great opportunity to really learn the language, it is not practical and I like being here in NY.

That probably was my son ! He likes Brooklyn (what's not to like ?) and does go to clubs at times. He's a great guy and if you read some of my earlier posts, you know we go to heavy metal concerts together (with his girffriend Alice). Tomorrow night, we are going to a completely different scene.....belly dancing and dinner at a restaurant in Queens (I won't be belly dancing, hahahha just watching a friend dancing).
