If u are a true Italian it is gravy not sauce. It was gravy bread on sunday mornings while your mother fried the meatballs. I never remember it being called sauce. I agree with u it is GRAVY. lol Love Terry

    Patsy,
I agree with you that that oatmeal breakfast--left overnight in the fridge--is the best breakfast there is. I make mine with skim milk, not soy.

Judy - Roasted Peppers - 3 or 4 RED Bell peppers put into a pyrex dish and rub peppers with olive oil just to coat. Around 8 inches from the broiler around 350 degrees for 30 to 45 minutes. Let them char black all around. Then put peppers into a large enough bowl to fit them and put saran wrap over them and let them cool for about 20 minutes where you can handle them without burning yourself. Have another bowl ready to throw the good part of the peppers in. Not the skin or seeds. The skin should peel off easily. Leave all the other stuff in the old bowl. When you have all the clean peppers in the bowl, get a fine strainer and take he natural oil from the peppers and strain into the clean peppers. Add garlic (what ever you like) parsley (italian) and one teaspoon of apple cider vineger. Put in refrigerator overnight. Enjoy!

    Subject: Recipies

With all the recipies I am reading on here I am reminded of a depression sandwich which we ate:

Take two slices of bread. Cover with butter (if you have any) and then spread ketchup or mustard on the bread. Smash the two slices together and cut it in half. (Monja. That is as good as my italian gets.) We had those sandwiches many times. As well as a Campbell Beans sandwich. Follow instructions above but put campbells beans (Hot or Cold) on the bread instead of the ketchup or mustard! End of cooking lesson :? :? :?

You, MIldred and myself are the only ones that agree it's Gravy, quess we are old timers in here lol, younger crowd calls it Sauce.

When I think of sauce, Blonds and Ragu comes to mind, yikes lmao.

I really tried to post a gravy train on here lol.

Ok, I stirred up enough Gravy for one day, happy to see everyone has a sense of humor, constructive points even with posted pictures, to funny. ^5 people, nite all.

    Carol,
Hi. I use the old fashioned oats, not the quick-cooking ones. The old fashioned oats take longer to break down in your digestive system keeping you fuller longer. In a plastic container (bowl size) put about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of oats, cover generously with milk and add anything you want. Some suggestions: raisins, dried cranberries or cherries, nuts, especially walnuts, grapes, sunflower or pumpkin seeds, chopped apple, blueberry, bananas (put in in the morning), even mix in a little yogurt. It really is delicious and, as I said, keeps you full for quite a while, provides low fat and low calorie nutrition and lots of fiber. I also put a packet of Equal in to sweeten without adding extra sugar. Dried fruit is high in sugar so use it sparingly or not at all. This concocotion is roughly equivalent to the European "muesli." Leave it in the refrigerator until morning. It's easy to take to work, doesn't have to be heated up, and will tide you over until lunch.

How's everything else? Maybe when Janet comes up in February we will meet again for dinner. I had so much fun the night you were her with Mildred. Say hi to Albert/Elliott.
