One thing that might help is to write her a letter and tell her whatever is in your heart. I don't know how old your children are, but something like this can be very helpful to them. Or you can have them draw a picture expressing their 'feelings' and all that needs to be said. (I was trained through the Diocese to conduct 'bereavement' sessions for children in
all the area churches (non-denominational).

Also, you can have some symbolic ceremony as a family. It can be so healing and bring you together. Again, I can go on and on... I'll stop now.

Francesca: You sound just like me. I love my animals and protect them as much as possible.
Today, I ran over a black snake. I was horrified, but checked and he was ok, so I moved him off the road. I stop and pick up turtles and take them in the direction they are facing to get them out of harms way.
One time a girl I worked with asked me to drive her and her boyfriend to the store to buy lettuce for his rabbit, so I figured he wasn't as bad as I initially though. The wind up was so he could fatten it up for his HUGE snake.
The next day, I found out that he was arrested, so I snuck over to his place and found the rabbit in the room with the snake, hiding behind the curtain. Sooooooooooo, I removed the rabbit and gave it to my grandkids, lol. I could have been arrested, Yikes !!! He figured it was me because I gave him hell, but never bothered me again.

Fran - So sorry for your loss. I too had to put my dog to sleep about six months ago. It was very hard on all of us.
