police perch at Franklin St. Johns

Yesterday I noticed the 5-0 stationed at the corner of Franklin & St. Johns. Does anybody know if there's a specific reason for this? Left over from Labor Day? Guarding Franklin Park & my favorite 24-hour bodega?

Pretty sure it wasn't there on Labor Day, they were rolling with it Monday afternoon. No idea if there is a specific reason, but it was been on tour all over the area for months and months now.

    This?

There was a decent gathering people outside last night around midnight near 95 South and looked like some commotion in the street. I didn't make much of it at the time though but I think they set up the perch later (I honestly can't remember but I think they were setting it up when I left Franklin Park a little later).

There is actually a cop inside. I am not sure if they are there during the day but they are at night. My guess is they decided to put their foot down on the rampant drug dealing on this spot. I for one am happy to see it and do not miss the all the cars pulling up in front of my house to meet their dealer. I know they will only go somewhere else, but St. John's and Franklin was and is full of drug dealers.

There has to be two cops for them to use it.

BTW- is there only one of them, or do they own multiple copies?

Is there really an officer inside that thing? It doesn't look big enough for a bathroom.

Yes. And it has no bathroom. They have to piss in the wind.

Answered my own question. NYPD has several of these. Don't take pics of them, BTW. You will get the smackdown.

yes, daver is right. my astute observation a couple weeks probably alerted the 77th precinct to the ongoing development of what some brooklynian posters are calling hoegaardegentrification.

didn't someone post about gunshots on franklin and st. john's? or is it st. johns? or did we determine we don't do apostrophes in street names?

As of yesterday it is gone, and today the drug dealers are back on St. John's... I was hoping it was going to stick around for a few months (even if it is unsightly) I thought it would have had a better and stronger impact then the two weeks it was there. I guess I was right.

i think all the dealers just went around the corner onto lincoln instead while the police perch was in place.

Yes, the police tower is a mental game being played to get you ready for what is really coming piece by piece. I mean if they shoved it down your throat; you would riot, wouldn't you or would you just lick their boots?

Well. Not exactly. But the one movement undoubtedly grew from the other. Allen Ginsburg. Merry Pranksters. Track through the likes of Dylan, etc.

Especially since, if I recall correctly, you not only drive a car. But also get away with parking illegally on a daily basis.

Suck that, My. Game Theory! While you are busy learning to play sissy games, Barney Fife is parking illegally without fear of consequence and double parking to get the donuts!

    Now _that_ is power.
