Who’s your favorite baseball team?

The other day I told someone I honestly believe there are more Red Sox fans in Park Slope right now than there are Met fans and Yankee fans combined. He said no way. So I’m curious to do a survey of who everyone in Park Slope’s favorite major league baseball team is.

Yankees are my favorite, obviously.

Anyway, this is Park Slope, Brooklyn. My father used to walk to Ebbits Field. Being a Yankee fan was a bad thing.

Yea, my great-grampa was a dodgers fan, so Mets fan I be. And I see a ton of Red Sox hats and t-shirts on the gentrifiers in Park slope. My sister who is a Red Sox fan (lives in MA) calls fans like that "pink hats" - people who've been fans since 2004.

Rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for Wal-Mart. Everyone talks about how Boston has the second biggest payroll, but only the Yanks are over the salary cap.

Go Boston!! I also like NL teams - the DH rule sucks.

Sorry, the Red Sox have won the World Series twice this decade and will be in the playoffs again this year. All that with a payroll that's $75 million less than the Yankees.

The Yankees are the lamest team in baseball, hands down.

Met's funs, let's be nice, I was so upset over a nasty comment by a Yankee fun last year about Met's fallout, we're better than that.

An Angels fan and enjoying every minute of it. As a kid I also liked the Yanks, especially Mattingly who once signed a baseball for me, but living in NYC for over 10 years has kind of dampened my appreciation for them. Now the only team I really want them to beat are the Red Sox who truly annoy me.

I didn't say I hated the Yankees (though I do). I said America hates the Yankees.

The New York Mets are a self-esteem issue in the form of a baseball team. I have zero time or tolerance for them.

Lifelong Yankee fan. Spending my teenage years in Miami, I also follow the Marlins, which made 2003 the best year ever for me, but a Yankee fan I will remain until I die. There is no better franchise in professional sports to be a fan of.

I'll say, though, that the entitlement some Yankee fans feel is a bit too much, especially this season. No, we're not going to make the playoffs (that is, unless the Red Sox do what I like to call "pulling a Met") this season. I apologize if you can't deal with that, but I can. You sometimes simply need to right the ship and reload. We'll be back. I don't think it'll be in 2009, but the natural order of things will return soon. In the meantime, I have no problem holding my head up high as a Yankees fan.

I am more annoyed by Yankees fans who live outside of New York City who NEVER lived in New York City who mindlessly worship the Yankees because they are brainwashed by the Yankees' advertisements and marketing machine. The Yankees is the American Disney baseball team. If you live in Kansas, it's cool to go to the Big Apple to see the Lion king on Broadway, 9/11 aftermath, and a Yankees game.

Even in Miami, before the Marlins came along, there was Tuesday night Yankee baseball every week. I always loved when Phil Rizzuto, around the 4th inning, would turn to Bill White and ask, "hey White, are we down in Florida tonight?" and, then, proceed to say hi to "Scooter and Ann."

That's not mindless-worshipping or marketing. Those are great baseball memories.

To be fair, there are probably more born-and-bred New Yorkers in Miami/Fort Lauderdale/and environs than in Park Slope these days.

I will say that it's real easy for the New Englanders to walk around wearing their Sox hats in NYC right now. That's not the real test of fandom. Let's see them wear those hats in the city when their team is where they belong.....looking up at us in the standings. Those who wear their hats then will be the real fans.

Yankees are not in the playoffs this year. The Mets are much more fun to follow. The Yankees are boring!

What's ridiculous is you thinking people who are from elsewhere and grew up rooting for a non-NY MLB team but now have moved to Brooklyn to loudly voice their hatred for the Yankees shouldn't. What do you expect them to become Yankee Fans? To do so they would probably have to lower their IQ quite a bit. Now Mets fans are another story. Most non-NY fans can empathize with them.

For example, I’m not a Braves fan. But that doesn’t mean I yell “Braves Suck” every time I see a Braves hat or shirt. And if I moved to Atlanta, I wouldn’t go around saying “Braves suck! Braves suck!” every time there’s a mention of them. I'd give the Braves respect, even I didn't root for them.

i hate both the yankees and the mets. while rooting for the yankees is like rooting for coca-cola, rooting for the mets is like rooting for the store brand

Oh please. As if anyone ever says, "Yankees suck" to anyone wearing a Yankees hat or shirt.

Anyway, Yankee fans are more apt to voice their disapproval of a team (especially that team from Boston) to anyone wearing a hat or shirt on teh street supporting the other team.
