Where Can I Find a Knit Hat

So, last winter I lost my favorite hat. I swear it's at the Marriott in Jacksonville (work trip), but they swear it's not.

It was from Target. It cost a whopping $7.

I miss it

It was a very simple loosely knit cap. Just a cap, nothing fancy. The key thing was that it was nice and loose. It didn't screw up my hair, yet it gave me some warmth.

Where can I find something like this without it costing me a fortune? I look at all the street vendors, but nothing.

I bet it's simple to make too. I'd even pay somebody (within reason) to knit me one.

Apparently, I know nothing of hats, either. Except I want one like my old one.

One of the women who works at Blue Marble on Underhill knits these things custom, for some price that struck me as extremely reasonable for such a thing. Like maybe $15? She's had one on display on the counter recently, and business cards, and maybe she'll be there to talk to.

(Plus, delish organic ice cream, which renders all efforts worthwhile.)

Yah, my mom is an awesome knitter and she makes hats and scarves all the time. But, it's not alpaca "fur" it's fiber. Or wool. k? What color do you want? Liver yellow?

You should see some of these in Soho, the street vendors...esp. as we get closer to the holidays. I have also seen some similar hats at street vendors on Bleeker St. & 6th Ave. there is a strip of street vendors there catering to tourists.

Jocelyn, street vendors seem to have a lot of newsboy-ish and cloche hats, or tightly woven hats. I've been looking all over...seriously all over.

Yes you do (since I live there ). You can also try Red Lipstick on Vanderbilt. They have beautiful and original stuff there. The owner is a poster here and maybe she can design one exactly like you want.

I saw a crocheted hat on an infant in a stroller on Sunday. I liked the hat. Would it have been wrong to try to distract the parents and snatch it off the head?

There's a wonderful little store on 6th Avenue and either 7th Street or 6th Street...the owner's brother designs the hats and they're made in Nepal...some of the knitted ones are made by her mother-in-law (there are beautiful hand-knit scarves there)

I found out recently that the store closed....

saw several inexpensive knit hats today in the window of MAX a hair
care store that sells mostly hair care products along with accessories
earrings , scarves and hats.
They just might be what you are looking for.
Located 5th Avenue and between 11 - 12th st. My partner got a nice
knitted hat at Mandys -- but that was last year, but they are only
two blocks away so it might be worth a try, providing you are still
looking!
