how funny, just saw this now, while sipping a little absolut martini (still my fave for smoooth. mm.)
re: inexpensive, I like luksosawa & sobieski (vodkas of 'my people')...I was a svedka-lover too, but somehow it tastes harsher to me now, have no idea why? (I can't believe they'd change the recipe, would they?). need to try Tito's, 'cause I've wondered about it.

^ & ^^ - the last time that I had Tito's, I got it at 7th Ave Wines and Spirits (or whatever it's called - the place that's on 7th Ave, near Union, on the west side of the street).

Tried and really like Tito's! Great price too especially compared to what I pay for Grey Goose.

Sterling Grape and Grains across from 5th Avenue Key Food has it on sale right now, 1 liter bottle for $19.99 and they will deliver anything you want just by you picking up the phone and asking for it.

Going to try Shaker's next, though, it will be haard to tear myself away from Tito's. I know Stoly's is good, but, would really like to find something good that also doesn't cost an arm and a leg (like Tito's!)

If you like your vodka with flavor, Oliphant has a hint of potato which I think is very cool.

There are two vodkas which are distilled in NY both of which are really unique. My favorite is Heart of the Valley which makes both a double distilled and triple distilled vodka from apples grown in NY. I was on a tour of wineries and happened upon their distillery, whch also does bourbon and whisky. Being apple based, the vodka has a hint of flavor, but it is extremely subtle, not at all like the flavored vodkas you buy off the shelf. I love the stuff!!

I never got the grey goose obsession. It has a weird taste to me. And I tried it during my vodka on the rocks phase. (I'm back to bourbon, and vodka is for Bloody Marys).

Stuck in a airport with a [Russian] coworker, he made me try a Ketel One shot, and I was sold. But I'm also okay with Skyy and Smirnoff since I'm generally mixing it.

I tried a Ukrainian vodka that I really liked called Nemiroff at the Vodka Gallery. It was delicious.

Don't forget about Balinoff. It's the new trend amongst my ex-Soviet family and their friends down in mini-motherland, Brighton Beach.

If it matters, I infuse my own vodka...It just takes some fruit some relatively cheap vodka (I use Sky) and some patience...I made a green tea with oranges infusion that was amazing (So tasty, my friends declared it dangerous--It had none of the typical burn civilians associate with Vodka, and the green tea keeps you feeling alert, but makes one no less drunk)...

That's a French one, right? They had that at the Vodka Gallery, but I haven't tried it yet.

I did love the Hammer + Sickle vodka that mahina got. Not cheap though, at 9 bucks a drink.

Yep, Balinoff is French. It's become the vodka of choice at all the middle class Russian gatherings I've recently been to (last year or two) since it's so reasonably priced.

I am totally on the Svedka bandwagon, as well. Can't beat the value!

Don't forget about Poland Spring. Only sold in handle-form, and has the same logo as 80s Poland Spring water, they obviously have no interest in associating with it.

Ketel One on the rocks extra dirty.

Apparently the place to find obscure vodkas is definitely down at Brighton beach.
