I went to Palava Hut last night, and, yes, I ate goat. But Remy, the proprietor, had no idea that someone had written an article about her place. She was very pleased about it all.

Okay, I have a confession to make: It was the first time I ate at Palava Hut. Usually I would go for the music, conversation and drinks. The sauce was really good- it was spinach with something surprising like pumpkin. And the pounded yam was good, but the goat was dry. Remy kept wondering if it was too spicy, and she didn't believe me when I asked for more hot sauce.

It was great to be back there. A musician, Baba, was there, and I think he's been ill for a few months. He was telling me stories about traveling in Kenya and buying grass from a policeman. He's going to be playing TONIGHT at Spoken Words Cafe on 226 4th Ave just south of Union. There was another praise singer there who doesn't speak much English, and I was trying to helping him with the pronunciation of my girlfriend's name "Jennifer." It seems like many of the patrons have facial scarification, which is not that common in New York.

Remy was as opinionated as ever. I got a ride there with some friends, one of whom had a one year old baby. She didn't think that babies that age should be out. But we agreed that Florida should not allow faith-based prisons.

The best time to go is Friday night around midnight- that's when the musicians start playing. That's when it can really be a scene.

still no one will tell me if they deliver. i'm intrigued by the idea of trying nigerian food, but completely unwilling to walk like a half mile or something to go there.

i like eating at places that I can see from my apartment. i love you carl's place.

Palava Hut does not deliver. But there are a couple Guinean places on Franklin, including one near Sterling. They might deliver- I'd like to find out, but it may take me a while to get over there.

I think it depends how many people are there. But when I left on Friday night at 12:30, there was still a stream of people getting food for take-out.

    Subject: It Stinks

I stopped by an empty Palava Hut on Thursday evening and the place smells so bad...it reeked--and not like fish...like funk.

I've had take out from there. Very tasty indeed. Also very greasy - with palm oil. But that's ok. I'd go again if I could remember how I got there the first time. Is it in Fort Greene?

Ya, you gotta love palm oil. It is located at 992 Atlantic, just east of Grand in Crown Heights.
