Do you drop off your laundry?...

...or do it yourself? Im curious, I feel like the only person in park slope who actually does my own laundry. If you drop it off, who do you use that doesn't throw everything into the dryer on high heat? If my jeans get dried on high I'll never be able to pour my ass back into them, which is the primary reason I haven't been dropping off...

I do my own laundry. I have the luxury of a washer and dryer in my apartment.

I have it picked up in the morning and delivered in the evening. I have the luxury of http://www.laundry.bz delivering to my apartment.

Drop off at 8th Ave/13th St.

I do my own and love it.

I had the same problem with things being over dried as well.

First time I've heard of this and they service Carroll Gardens as well. Do they do a good job?

I drop off and pick up (though they will deliver, too) and it's SUPER cheap!

No, I do my own laundry because i let half of my clothes air dry or they'd shrink.

I used to have the laundromat do it for me, but then they shrunk the clothes I had in a special bag which was not supposed to go in the dryer. So much for expecting people to follow your instructions.

I agree with feeling like the only one who actually does his own. For me, it's two issues: 1) no money, 2) stuff that can't be put in dryer. Probably emphasis on the 1st issue... however.

I'm the one with the white cart that is falling apart that pushing his overflowing laundry (sometimes as tall as I) down 3 blocks to the laundromat on 7th and like 14th. haha... oh well.

I use the same one - the Chinese-owned one or the one next to La Dolce Vita? The first one shrunk my clothes so i started doing my laundry at the other one.

Ummm, I use the one next to Parco.

I do my own, at 8th Ave & 16th. Luckily, laundromat prices in South Slope are consistent with those in rural upstate!

I have used laundry.bz and they are awesome. I totally love them. But I also live on 5th Street and 6th Avenue, and once that laundromat changed hands, I started using them. And they are wonderful. Just wonderful. I had a lot of fondness for the elderly couple that used to run it, but their time was done; they were quite ready to retire. This new family is energetic and fun and get the laundry done the same day. Sometimes within mere hours. They rock.

I've been using laundry.bz for nine months as I move from sublet to sublet. They do a great job and always deliver on time. Clothes are neatly folded, not wrinkled and they've never fried any of my stuff.

I drop mine off at the place at 8th Ave. and 11th St.

Anything that absolutely can't go in the dryer (sweaters, synthetics, fine cottons, etc.) I keep separate and do myself. They do over-dry everything, which means I rock the rumpled look a lot. Will & Grace notwithstanding, not all gay men love to iron.

I used to drop mine off when I lived at my old apartment. Now Mrs. C and I are lucky enough to have our own washer and dryer in our apartment, so we do our own.

Comfortably Smug: How much do you normally pay for, say, three loads of regular laundry?

Kudos to laundry.bz. Have tried many other places, but they are best, by far.

the washer/dryer was one of the key reasons i bought this apartment (along with a: windowseat, and b: dishwasher)

laundry.bz is awesome. I use them for pickup & delivery when I can, but I have a hard time knowing when I am going to be home and/or actually being home, so when it's one of those weeks the one on 8th ave & 11th does a fine job. They do over-dry - but you've gotta keep those skinny jeans tight so it's ok!

We have machines in the basement and hubby does the laundry. I fold it though.

If you use laundry.bz do you have to schedule the delivery for exactly 24 hours after the pickup or can you push it back a bit? Like if I have them pick it up at 9pm Monday do they have to deliver 9pm Tuesday or could I schedule it for like 8am Wednesday? The website was unclear to me...

Just placed my first order with laundry.bz. Pickup tomorrow, drop off Tues. Fingers crossed

We have our own machines in our home thank goodness. Did the dragging for years. Even if you have a small apt I would get a stackable and put it in a closet.

See, this is one thing I really don't understand about many people who live in New York--what is the appeal of throwing away all that money (and more importantly, TIME) to lug a 45lb bag of laundry somewhere to have someone else do it, or alternatively, to sit rotting in some dingy coin laundry for two hours, when you can do it yourself at home for a fraction of the cost and the hassle??

All this talk I always hear from people about "my apartment isn't big enough to have a washer" is ridiculous, they make apartment-sized washers like this one that cost less than $200 bucks and can fit in even a regular-sized studio:

All you need is (1) a small washer; and (2) a foldable wood drying rack from Save On Fifth.

Not to mention, dryers suck because all they do is destroy your clothes in exchange for a (slightly) quicker dry. Ever since I've stopped using an electric dryer, my clothes now look just as new as the day I bought them even a year or two later.

Seriously, it's just so much easier and cheaper to do laundry at home--I don't understand why so many people are so averse to it.

I feel like electric clothing dryers are one of those things that corporate America has brainwashed us into thinking that we can't live without. When I was forced to live in a situation years ago without access to a dryer I was like "Oh my God, how will I survive"--then, after two years there, I was like "Who needs one??" Same goes for washing (most) clothes in warm/hot water; it's totally unnecessary and actually harmful to your clothes.
