Several NYPD cruisers were parked at and near the corner of Park Place and Underhill tonight. It looked like the police were going door to door along the brownstones and townhouses on the south side of Park Place near Underhill.

Anyone know the scoop?

The scuttlebutt is that they caught 2 of the guys that have been doing roof top break ins.

Granted this is 2nd hand, KWAC, any more info?

Yes, according to the detective I spoke to. Do hope they've been caught.

Me too. We talked to three detectives in our hallway on Friday night and were happy to see them working on it so hard. Now that I know it wasn't just our building (where actually not that much was taken), it makes more sense.

Opportunistic, I'll warrant. Any accessible weak spot will do; they entered via un-barred windows in our building.

Update: there were ca. 4 more break-ins over the weekend, and they've not been caught yet. Sounds like 10-12 incidents in a 2 block radius (Park/Prospect) in the last month, which is way more than usual. The major weakness is unbarred windows on fire escapes.

Yeah, they caught two of the group who have been breaking into buildings in the neighborhood. Apparently, 14y.o. if they're a day!! I'm pretty sure I encountered them (4) last week in my building. They were inside the front door and were trying but hadn't managed to get thru the second door. Unfortunately, I just rousted them instead of calling the police.

There was one of those break ins in my building. Apparently they went from the roof down the fire escape and through an unlocked window on the top floor. Managed to get away with two computers and a bunch of other things. I hope they get caught. I can't believe they were that young!

Pretty good information on this site...They were both 15. Caught on a rooftop on Park Plc. They tripped a silent alarm when trying to enter a house. They were stopped by a security gate mounted inside the window. When trying to flee the top floor tenant heard noise on the roof and called 911 in addition to the alarm company calling. There have been several unsuccesful attempts to burglarize that home and many many many successful burglaries in the surrounding area.

A doorman won't stop somebody from climbing a fire escape.

The next new wave in real estate: buildings with fire escape men. Doormen are so 90s.
