    St. Marks Garden Update:

The garden members removed the shelter and feeding station recently without alerting the feeder. Betty, one of the cats that lived in the garden, was found dead this morning on Vanderbilt. She was hit by a car - probably crossing the street in search of food. The feeder's phone number was even clearly marked on the shelter. They could have at least called to let her know that the shelter and feeding station were being removed. Definitely an unnecessary and preventable death. I will never quite look at this garden the same. What a shame.

They've been telling her for months that they're getting rid of the shelter, an article appears in the Daily News and now you want me to believe that she hadn't been "alerted." Please.

A feral cat got hit by a car in a major metropolitan area. Somehow I think we'll all muster up the strength to move on.

Charming, chrispy. Your sympathy for an innocent creature is astounding.

This makes me sick to my stomach, poor Betty. I have nothing else to say that won't get me into an argument with the "they're just feral cats, they're completely worthless" crowd. These garden members are poor excuses of human beings.

I'm confused by this update. Was the feeder a member of the garden or not? If so, sounds like there will be some strain between her and some of her fellow gardeners going forward. Too bad-- because I imagine that like in any group, there was disagreement and I imagine that some people in the garden may not have minded having the cats being there.
