We liked Hunan Wok. It just had a hand-lettered "closed" sign in the window one day, and then it was gone. Probably some overpriced place we can't afford will open in that space. Bummer.

If Hunan Wok is the place on 7th Avenue between Union and president near the Aerosoles store-they closed down about 2 months ago.

They had a sign in the window saying they were closed and when you called their phone number, it connected you to the chinese place a few blocks closer to Flatbush (Mr. Wonton I think?). They said they merged with them.

maybe i'm thinking of a different place, as usual. the place i'm thinking of was in south slope. it may still be there, i threw out all the menus so i don't remember

^ Definitely not in South Slope. I just googled the image and Hunan Wok was on 7th Avenue between president and Union. So many Chinese places have "Hunan" in the name, it's confusing.

There's now an awning up for your standard corner store, presumably selling old vegetables, milk, beer, ice cream and chips.

yep and the new sign says OPEN 24 HOURS!!

i'm THRILLED about the new "park slope farm" i believe it's called.

we desperately need a nice bodega on this stretch of 7th which is open all night.

so much better than the absolutely crappy chinese place which was there before. horrible food and VERY unclean place.

I'm just curious, belzjm, so please don't take offense at my question. Is there any new store that's opened up in the Slope that you aren't thrilled about?

I once had a bad experience at the Hunan Wok place on 7th Avenue near Union Street. The Hunan Wok place claimed to serve "fresh" crabs when I last ate there. The center of my "fresh" crab was frozen like an ice rock. The waiter played dumb. I never returned. Hunan Delight on 6th Avenue near Union Street, on the other hand, has always served me fresh food.

i would never be happy with a cell phone store, real estate office, atm, or most national chains.

i DO however get excited about stores opening so that empty storefronts don't sit empty in the neighborhood.

especially a 24 hour bodega, of which we have nothing like this anywhere around my area of the north slope near 7th avenue.

don't take this the wrong way, but is there anything you DO get excited about?

I get excited about very different things, empty storefronts are the least of my worries. I got excited when the stray cat that had been running away from me for months finally started using one of the winter shelters behind my building. I got excited when no one in my building died from the CO leak we had a few weeks ago early on a Sunday morning when most everyone was asleep. I was especially excited that no one else was hurt when that guy was shot and killed outside my building last Saturday. And I'm very excited that the store I work at is still doing okay in a neighborhood where other businesses are in trouble and closing down. The fact that I still have a job and am surviving in this economy is very exciting to me. A fruit stand opening up 2 blocks away from another fruit stand in a neighborhood filled with them doesn't excite me very much. Maybe it would excite me if one opened in my neighborhood where there are very few decent fruit stands.

next time there's a mention of a mediocre chinese store closing, i'll be sure to list all the truly important things in life i'm happy and excited about.

    like stray cats.

i think you should just make a pledge to discontinue responding to my posts caseopele. i find your comments so incredibly negative and argumentative and will respectfully do the same.

Back to the topic at hand. Yay for Hunan Wok closing and all their employees being out of work! A 24 hour fruit stand is sooo much better and now no one has to walk all the way to Garfield for munchies. Oh wait, that place might close too! Guess it's just too far away... Wouldn't want anyone to get tie-tie!
