I have only been a couple of times, but I would be sad to hear that they are closed. Does anyone know the story?

*sigh* I guess we'll have to pick a new spot for our reception.

I vaguely remember hearing some not so great things about this place/the owners in the past, though.

closed up for good. I believe they were bought out. The Brooklyn Barons rugby team used to hang out there...we all had some good times.

It was a Red Sox-friendly bar, which I enjoyed. Bummer.

Suddenly I don't fee so bad this place closed.

    just kidding - sort of.

Beav - we still have our back-up plan. Prospect Park. Obamanut's off-leash dog will be the best man.

Eh. Whynot and Mamacita will want to ride around is on bikes and take pictures. It'll be weird.

In all of the years I've been living here, I was never tempted to go there.

If I had known there were rugby players inside, that could have lured me in :-)

Seriously. A day late, a hot rugby player short.

Yeah, that was my go-to Sox-watching spot over the summer. Fun spot, it actually had the feel of a local New England pub to me. It was a little pricey though.

Try Plan B on Vandy if you want to see Sox games. Note, not affiliated with the joint, just was happy to discover during the playoff that one of the bartenders was a fan, and had the game on. Only been a few times, but plan on going more regularly this upcoming season.

If anyone is interested in Brooklyn's only Men's Rugby team, they usually hang out at PJ Hanley's on Court and 4th Pl. They actually had a great season last year and are looking to repeat this year. If you got facebook (evil thing that it is) you can find them under Brooklyn Rugby Club. You can find their website and game schedules there if you'd like to go.

After they got rid of the pool table in the back, the place went downhill....just hope it's replaced with another laid back bar.

last i heard, lighthouse was in the process of getting bought back in September by owners of Commonwealth and Long Tan. New name: High Dive. But that was in Oct.

Agree. I think they tried to change from a decent sports bar to a bit more loungy when they replaced the pool table with couches and made the late night music loud and annoying. I was not happy with the changes and pretty much stopped going after that. Sad to see it go but not particularly surprised.

I used to like sitting in the back patio; no one else was usually there and I could watch youtube on my phone to my heart's content:).

i didn't even know about the lounge part--that would've drawn me in! well, i like those other bars--so as long as we can still keep drinkin. ok with me.

Great place, and I lived right down the street from it on Carroll. Friendly, good selection of brews, down to earth. A real loss. And the back patio was aces on a hot summer's night. And the pool table was real nice when they had it. What a shame, this was my neighborhood bar.

On the bright side, guys, I walked by the place a couple of Sundays ago and there were signs up that said something about a going-out-of-business, half-off (or something) all booze event. It was closed and a complete mess when I glanced in. So it would appear they went out in style.

    The owners were jerks.
I went for a while when it first was open, but stopped shortly after.

i always assumed the broken windows were a direct result of all the yankees insults on the chalkboards out front. I love trashing the yanks as much as the next guy but that seemed foolish.

One of our better park slope bar owners is looking at this spot right now. It isn't definite but I'll keep y'all posted.

I actually would half agree with this. I stopped in with my wife and a couple of friends for a drink one night. My wife, who's not a beer drinker, simply asked what kind of wine they had. The look and snark she recieved really weren't deserved. I get it....you're a dive. That was a bit too much.

The Sox stuff was ridiculous as well. Move back to Quincy.

I think it'll be re-opening in March under a new name and ownership.

i thought i heard that the same person/people were going to take over this space as well as the old mooney's pub on flatbush.

    can't recall...perhaps it's the commonwealth owner/s?

    that would be great.

i like that place a lot.

I believe you're right; it is them. But the Mooney's space might take a little longer to re-open.

I haven't had an experience like that in Park Slope, but when I brought two wine drinkers to Hugs in Williamsburg, the exact same thing happened and I never returned.
