How often do you leave the hood (aside from work)

So glad to know there's other peeps who think like this!

When I do go to Manhattan I put on hipster glasses and kind of dress nicer - no jeans. Just the half hour subway ride makes me lose interest.

I work in the city so on the weekends I rarely leave Brooklyn. If I do leave the Slope it's to go to Smith and Court streets or Williamsburg. When I lived in Manhattan it was just the opposite...I would never go to Brooklyn.

I leave Brooklyn a lot less now that I work in Bedstuy and not in the FiDi. We do frequent other nabes other than the Slope, though.....had dinner on Smith St. on Friday and brunch in Bay Ridge on Sunday but, otherwise, we have to plan ahead to head into Manhattan. It must be the 30's, as another poster said....

I also find myself tiring so much more of the hassle you have to go through to do certain things in Manhattan. I can get a ridiculous overpriced drink (when I want to) at Weather Up or Clover Club by walking in. Death & Co. has an idiot up front who takes your name down and calls you back three hours later. I wanted a Shopsin's burger in the LES on Saturday.....another hours-long hassle and, really, James and Bussaco have burgers probably just as good. My patience for Manhattan's little quirks to get the supposed cool, premium stuff is getting to be less and less, especially when there's alternatives just as good around the corner.

The other thing is that the weekends are when they do track work on the subways and so the trains are all re-routed and it's absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to get in and out directly.

I leave PS mostly for destinations in Manhattan (upper west side and greenwich village) and Brooklyn (billburg). But I put on my ruby slippers and find there's no place like home among the gentrific boutiques and eating/drinking establishments of PS.

I marvel sometimes at how difficult the MTA can make the service reroutes. Ive been riding the train for a while now and consider myself pretty intelligent (and I obviously can speak english) and I even end up places I don't want to go. I can't imagine what tourists go through.

I don't have the same problem at my subway stop on the weekend. They are very clear that no trains are running and that I have to take the bus instead.

Living off the R I can't say its the trains that keep me from going into the city, because I could always catch one. I do think it has alot to do with neighborhood friends... I used to have them all in the city, but now they're almost all in Brooklyn!! So, we do neighborhood stuff. I have to trek it into the city every day for work, but when I can, I avoid it on the weekends. I'd much rather chill locally and veg.

So true. I still don't quite understand the MTA's explanation of that 2/5 weekend switcheroo business from last year. Eventually I came to know what was happening, but the MTA sure wasn't helping me do that.

I think that the real reason I don't leave BK much on the weekends is that I don't need to. I feel well cared for with the services offered within a half mile of my house. Most often, the reason I'm in Manhattan on a Saturday is that I have tickets to something or other. I agree with the poster about Paragon Sports, very occasionally I'll need Whole Foods (and not Blue Apron or Union Market), but that's more the exception than the norm.

Except for work, hardly ever. We get insulted if people want us to leave on Sundays. When I first moved to Brooklyn no one would come visit me, now everyone wants to visit Brooklyn!

It's funny that almost everyone here has interpreted the original question as "how often do you go to manhattan?" Only 1 person has mentioned ever going to the Bronx, Queens, anywhere in South Brooklyn or Staten Island.

well because the bronx and queens are even harder to get to. I went to the Bronx Museum of the Arts a few months ago and It took over an hour. Also while I love many parts of southern brooklyn there are few real destinations during the winter unless you're visiting friends.

I would go to Flushing more but dont because its really far away and I can go to sunset park and get similar things.

We only go to Queens if we are taking the kids to a museum there or visiting the one relative who still lives there, so, that is rare. The Bronx? Umm, maybe once a year to go to the zoo, hubby used to go to yankee games a couple of times a year.

I just walked to IKEA, does that count?

Yes there are depending on how old your kids are. I will PM you with some places, i have a long list
