Yes, there are. I bought a lovely Xmas tree from them at JJ Byrne* this December. The guy in charge noticed my 3-year-old boy and told me that the troop meets at JJ Byrne periodically, and invited me & my kid to look into the Boy Scouts when he's old enough.

*I'll call it "Washington Park" when I start calling 6th Ave "Avenue of the Americas." In other words, when I'm ice skating in Hell.

not kidding. and the latest one wasn't even a freshman.

^^ A friend of mine is an HR director for a large hotel in NC and she tells me you wouldn't believe how many people in college or just out of college have their moms call up inquiring about jobs or interviews. It's appalling!

BTW, it is still called JJ Byrne Playground, but the rear section where the dog run and skate park, etc. are is now called Washington Park. So, you are correct in still calling it JJ Byrne.

No, I have older children and, no, I would not do that. Not as long as they worked a full time job, paid bills and otherwise acted like a responsible adult and we had the room, it wouldn't matter to me

I wouldn't raise a slacker , my kids have jobs when they are early teens and know the deal is after 18, full time school or full time work. We don't baby our kids. And, yes, I have an older child who is over 20, full time job, pays bills, lives at home, etc. etc.

And, I (correctly, I might point out) assume that parents who would call a child's potential employer have in fact raised slacker children. Afterall, entitled people tend to raise entitled children.

And I can't think of many acts that are more entitled than thinking that someone should hire your kid because you called them...

It's this new thing called helicopter parenting, the parents think it is their job to be their entire lives for their kids instead of bringing the kids up to learn how to be productive, active, adults. these parents are still doing everything for their child well into their 20s and must make some mother in laws when and if the time comes!

I believe I have seen these helicopters locally. In the cases I have seen, I believe it is because the parents have no lives of their own (or unresolved ones), and attempt to get lives through their kids.

Helicopters tend to be very unstable, and have no redundancy systems.

...they crash in large winds.
....and can be shot down easily.

If you are twisted (evil?), such things are sometimes fun to watch when you don't know (or simply don't like...) the people involved.

I have several reasons preventing me from moving at the moment. And I don't "care" about how much people spend; rather, it's entertainment to me. I am like the Jane Goodall of Park Slope, taking great pleasure in trying to make sense of a community that's incapable of seeing itself from the outside, through the eyes of an objective, rational observer.

i wonder what brilliant clever things people will come up with in response to "i am the jane goodall of park slope".
