Help! Found a bird!

I found a young bird outside my building a little while ago, it looks like a hawk or falcon of some sort. Hooked beak, light brown belly, some orange feathers with black spots on them. White feathers with black spots under his wings. Anyone know who to contact for help? I'm worried it's a young bird that fell from a nest under my roof, his belly is totally soaked from the rain. Please email me if you have any ideas, thanks!

Thanks for the advice! I managed to get in touch with a wildlife rehabilitator who is going to try to get a friend to pick the bird up. It turns out that he's an American Kestrel and probably got stunned somehow. The rehabber will make sure that he's okay before he releases him back outside my building. They're territorial and he may have a mate nearby.

In the meantime he's hanging out in a big carrier with some hot water bottles under a towel. I left him in my building's hallway since the carrier won't fit in my bathroom and that's the only room I have a door on. I figured he had enough excitement for one day without the cats trying to eat him.

P.S. Here's a link to a picture that looks a bit like him (though I think my guy is prettier!).

Oh my god, what a beauty. I love birds of prey. God I hope he survives. Those are absolutely lovely birds. so beautiful.

I'm around all tomorrow during the day if you need me to come over. Just call, I have a new cell and my old numbers are not on it, so I don't have your number anymore. But I'm around if you need me!

Haha, he is a beauty! I actually got to hold him while he was still out of it, I caught him by throwing a towel over him and he just laid there for 20 minutes. I was so worried that he died from shock that I was sitting in the hallway talking to him! He laid right in my hand just watching me, I could feel his little heart beating. It was amazing! But then he started to wake up and hopped to his feet in the carrier. He stood there looking at me like, "WTF are you doing, lady? I will mess you up!". So no feeding him, unfortunately. :(

Also, you're not supposed to feed raptors unless you know what you're doing. And if you've found an injured bird that may have a head injury, don't give it water because it could drown in it.

I wish I had a camera! My phone's camera totally blows and I have no way of sending pics to anything other than someone's phone. He's gorgeous and so fierce!

Second pic - I probably should have photo shopped to make it a little less blurry. Adorable though.

Thanks Voodoo, you're the best! He's an adult, male I think. When he's been checked out and can be released they're bringing him back here. They're territorial and he may have a mate nearby.

Yay! Sorry for the crappy pics but my phone's camera is pretty bad. He's feeling much better today, a lot more feisty and did not like me taking his picture!

Mr. Magnificent was picked up this afternoon and is with a wildlife rehabilitator named Bobby Horvath (google him, he rocks). Bobby said Mr. M has a broken left wing and hurt right foot, he hopes he'll be better after 3-4 weeks of cage rest. He's also going to send me some decent pictures in a few days. I have our very own Cat to thank for finding Bobby for me, Mr. M is in good hands.

Think good thoughts for Mr. M!

As always, Caseo, you open your heart to all of God's creatures.

You know what your heaven is going to be? All of the animals you're ever loved and needed love, waiting for you.

That would be the best, I think.
