Dinner recommendations

Going to a 10 PM showing at the Court St. UA and looking for something decent to eat before the show. Any suggestions?

Pizza at Lucali. Remember...BYOB (can buy at bodega on corner or wherever on the way) and they just might chill it for ya if needed.

Not cheap, and its so popular there's likely to be a wait on any given evening but definitely worth it IMO.

Alternatively you could see if the new Watty & Meg place (formerly Caffe Carcioffo) is open at the corner of Court & Kane streets, which'd put you right down the block (across Court) from the theater.

Scottish food, maybe?

In that case ignore the above and you could always just go to Pete's Waterfront Ale House for something casual and pubby.

The new pizza place a couple doors down from the Waterfront is pretty good. fancy style. the Watrefront never dissappoints. Waterfalls across the street from there is great as well. Not too much up in the Heights these days

I have never been (so don't blame me if it sucks) but I hear very good things about Queen which is not far from the cinema (Italian food at a generic looking retaurant). The reviews on Yelp are mixed:

If you want to venture to Smith Street (it's a nice night for a walk):

1. The Jakewalk - casual; good for wines by the glass and cheese/charcuterie plates;
2. Robin Des Bois - casual; limited menu but the tiny bar is fun and the place has great atmosphere most nights; they also have a beautiful backyard (take a peek even if you're not going to eat out there);
3. Pacifico - greasy, not-good Mexican food, but good, strong margaritas;
4. The Grocery - the best restaurant on Smith and one of the best restaurants in Brooklyn (upscale);

For a hoot, you can go to Marco Polo - only order the FRESH PASTA dishes (ask which ones are fresh tonight); this is old school Italian and you will be spoiled by both Michael (the manager) and the bartender. If you're lucky, there will be a piano player playing.

If you want to take a cab, I highly recommend The Good Fork on Van Brunt in Red Hook.

I don't know yet. Because I'm a little slow, I failed to mention that this wouldn't be taking place until Friday night.

Both Char #4 and Clover Club on Smith are within walking distance. Clover Club is more of a bar with small plates, but awesome cocktails. Another kind of casual place people always forget is Henry's End in BH. I think their yearly wild game menu is over, but the normal menu is also great. Get the fried chicken!

waterfront ale house. hands down the best food on that strip of atlantic.

Apt 138 was pretty good too, and they have a nice outdoor space for if the weather is good.

Is Waterfront Ale House connected to the one in Murray Hill? If so, its ok, but more notable for beer selection than food.

Saul is fantastic, but probably a bit too pricey for a casual Friday night date. Went on my bbday and the lamb four ways special (chop, saddle, breast, sausage) is one of my favorite dishes anywhere in NYC. Also went to Clover Club that night, amazing cocktails, really fun place.

Waterfront Ale House has the same ownership as the one in the City and I agree that their beer selection is the best thing they have going. The food is better than average bar food.

Carni, curious if you have ever been to Henry's End for the game menu? BBQ rattlesnake salad? Fillet of kangaroo? I've been a couple times and the elk chops are delicious.

yeah, fridays gonna be tough in that neighborhood.. it gets busy

I second Bar Tabac - great burgers and they sometimes have live (acoustic) music (usually a jazz trio or a couple of flamenco guitar players).

Steer clear of any restaurant on Montague Street. I've had more than one friend get sick from eating at restaurants there.

Waterfront Ale house on atlantic is very solid bar and grill food, with some really good options. Their pulled pork or pulled chicken is really good and the appetizers I've had there have always been great. Awesome beer selection as well (many cask ales!).

Also second Clover Club for an after movie cocktail. Very romantic and the bar and decorations take you back to the 40's.

Lucali's is great, I don't think it's expensive at all, but it does get crowded and there's always a wait. You'd probably not like that.

We're just looking for a quick bite before the movie.
