University Towers is nice but the housing development across the street has a lot of shoot outs. You should get involved with the community meetings that go on so you can stay informed. The 88th pct meetings are every 3rd Tuesday of the month and the location changes. You can contact the Community Affairs at 636-6526 to find out more.

Wow, thanks. I'm assuming you're talking about Kingsview Towers across the street? I looked at a few apartments there. Funny, the realtors never mentioned that .... ;)

Not really Kingsview. I'm talking about Ingerson and Whitman Houses. There is also the housing police community affairs officers 718-386-4101. They have meetings every first Wednesday of the month.

I've lived in University Towers for 7 years...yes, you do hear occasional gunshots, but in general the area has much improved.

Groceries can be a problem if you don't have a car. There's an Associated on Myrtle but it's not great. Right now a petition is pending with Fresh Direct to start delivering to the co-op.

Thanks Pippa - that's helpful. Why won't Fresh Direct deliver to the co-op?

Also, since you live there, do you have any information on the parking situation? Is there a waiting list? How long is it? How much does it cost?

I'm not sure why Fresh Direct hasn't been delivering up til now. They deliver to the zip code (11201) but their cutoff seems to have been Flatbush Avenue.

About parking, you can look on the bulletin boards in each building for people who are looking for renters for their spots. As far as I know, the co-op itself doesn't have a parking list - the spots are sold to individual owners, who then have the option to rent them to other tenants.

Well I live in the area as well and I work for a law enforcement agency. It has improved but it still has a long way to go. Speaking from an "insider" on both ends I thought you should know the good and the bad. If you are smart you'll watch out for the housing developments. Gangs are a really big thing there.

A cop got shoot over by Ingersol Houses today. I told you that you need to be a little careful around there.

Subject: An update on Fresh Direct...

They are now delivering to Univ. Towers.

Just curious, Ana - did you decide to take the apartment?

Oh, it's such a sad story. I was in contract on it, but I had a sales contingency and the co-op board of my building rejected the buyer on my apartment so I had to let it go. :(

I'm happy for you that Fresh Direct delivers though! That's great news ...

    Hi,

Currently looking to rent at UT -- the block itself seems nice but I'm a bit apprehensive about the safety issues --

    Any further feedback?

    Thanks in advance!

I've done a fair bit of research on the bldg (but more info can't hurt) spoken to ppl that live (or know people that do) and work in the comples..there was one story of a mugging on Ashland/Willoughby awhile ago..could not ascertain whether it was a resident or not..but that was it

people who live there don't seem to be under siege

    Subject: University Towers?

    Hi
I am a real newbie to this posting thing. We are in contract for an apt in University Towers Apartments) UTA. Seemed nice on all the visits we have made to the nabe with the exception of the projects, but we have projects in NYC also. NOW the Associated seems to be closing (on Myrtle) and last time we ere there, there was a lot of digging going on. What is the skinny. I researched and came up with a 500 unit housing complex somewhere very close to UTA.
    Anyone know anything?

    Sorry
That was a 2 subject statement

1.The Associated grocery store on Myrtle seemed to be closing.

    2. There is building activity in the area near the grocery. I have not been there in 3 weeks. Researched the building activity to find there is a 500 unit housing development scheduled for this area. Does anyone have any info about new building(s) going up there near the University Towers Apartments

That sounds like what I have heard. They are changing that block into a housing development. The Associated is closed. There were some articles on it, but I am coming up with nothing.

Here is a related story about the effect of the loss of retailers here:

    wow thanks Isla..interesting article

I would not be at all unhappy to see some nicer stores on that strip

do feel bad for the people that will be impacted...kinda a sad when people protest to preserve crappy service :(

    Thanx for that information.

I am looking forward to the move to UTA despite the hardship of not having the supermarket, etc. for the next year or two. What will come to the neighborhood will have to be better than what I viewed on that strip of land a few weeks ago

There is a Park Slope Food Co-op I understand and it is not too far away. You have to join and work at the co-op for 4 hours every 4 weeks to be able to shop there

Perhaps it will work out for the better for EVERYONE in the neighborhood in the long run

I am considering an apartment in Kinsgview Towers. Aside from everything else recently discussed about the neighborhood, does anyone know anything about Kinsgview? It seems like a well-maintained complex.

    Thanks

I know two people who own in Kingsview, but they have always been very close mouthed about the goings on there. They have been there for many years. I didn't even know they had places on the market. I pass it every day it looks well maintained, secure and quiet. I have always been curious about the complex.

you can always go up to myrtle/hall for the supermarket there.

the park slope food coop, without a car, is completely inconvenient to UTA, imo.
