Dead 7th Ave Restaurants - 7/09

Looks like the infamous [in these pages] Elementi finally bit the dust. Brown paper and a Realtor's sign cover the front windows.
And now it looks like the Grecian Corner across from John Jay is "closed for renovations". Yeah, sure.

I would be SHOCKED if Grecian Corner closed up, they have been there for a billion years!

Why, does renovations all of a sudden mean closed down?

Also that sushi place (the fusion [peruvian?] one) on around carrolish with the mexican place above it is "closed for renovations." Sorry I cant be more descriptive, I think it had some three syllable name and was across from keyfood...

Well, renovating at least. I've been entertaining myself with thoughts on what they could possibly want to add to that place (in addition to the deli, restaurant and jazz club). Sushi? Frozen yogurt?

I was surprised to see that Hanabi had closed... so soon after they had done the extensive remodel. Well, probably BECAUSE they had done an extensive/expensive remodel.

I'm assuming, as I'm sure the rest of the world is, that Little D's is actually closed. Why put a just renovating sign on the door? Or do people think they are actually not out of business?

I read somewhere on here that it's becoming a Mexican restaurant. My hope is that it is Chile & Chocolate's new location.

Grecian corner doesn't even have their windows covered. It's probably a closed for renovations to get clear up a health department violation (which I think happens more than we realize around here).

Not a restaurant, but I just realized their is a new pet store on 7th, near Joe's pizza. I think it was Beastly Bite. It opened a week ago (according to the woman working there) and has lots of dog and cat foods/treats/toys. The few things I looked at for price comparison looked a little steep compared to big stores like Petco, but seemed on par with the other neighborhood pet suppliers. I can't even remember what used to be in that spot.

that spot was empty for quite a while, if i remember correctly.

also noticed something new coming across from beacons closet on 5th avenue...milan optique, i believe it's called.

It was an eyeglass store that closed a while ago. Beastly Bite is that pet store that has been on court Street for a dog's age

Yeah, that place is a mess. Sad as it is to lose another local business, I don't think they'll be widely missed if they don't reopen. The only one I've ever heard rave about the place was a certain shithead troll who used to frequent these boards.

Its important for landlords to identify the unique businesses that bring character to the slope and do their best to keep them in business. Even if it means taking a cut on the rent. Its those unique shops and restaurants that make park slope as special as it is. However, businesses that offer poor service should make way to innovative thinking. Barrio restaurant on 7th comes to mind. For the life of me I don't understand how they stay in business.

and the people who run the place, also run some very delicious places in manhattan, specifically calle ocho on the upper west side.

barrio turned that horrible corner into a vibrant and always happening place to sit outside and eat.

...summer is likely the best time to renovate a restaurant in Park Slope. lots of folks are on vacation.

I give this store 6 months, tops. They are at least 10% more expensive than the pet store on 5th and President and even more expensive than the guy on 7th and 5th.

Here is a tip. If someone walks into your store; say hello...it does wonders. And "owner guy" on his cell standing in the doorway, customers shouldn't have to say excuse me to walk into your store.

Have you eaten there recently? My last meal there, about a month ago, was terrible. It's too bad. I was a big fan.

I was pretty unimpressed by Barrio when we ate there several months ago. Not eager to go back there.

"were taking as much crap out of here as we can loading it up on to a truck at 3 am , changing our names and moving to peoria."

As someone else said, it is also a signal that they are fixing up Health Dept. violations

sometimes closed for renovation actually means closed for renovation.

hanabi's being split into 2-business: the chicken place you saw in a recent posting, and a wine-bar in what-was the larger, restaurant portion of the space.

those are 2-types of businesses that i don't think 7th avenue needs, but then again, maybe i'm just saying that because i miss hanabi and the fine people who worked there.
