That is the point! If you want travel lanes for cars, obey EVERY law.
Not run the red lights when you feel like it.
    Not driving the wrong way.
Not speeding - no not even 1 MPH! Evar!!!!11!
No illegal U-turns (hint: just about all u-turns are illegal on 5th and 7th aves in the slope)
No accelerating through a yellow light

You cried for the lane, now take the good with the bad. It doesnt matter which is more dangerous. In the end, the law is the law.

So tired of the self righteous car crowd.
its obvious you have nothing to stand on and are now trolling.

no actually he made a very valid point which you seem to be ignoring. you can't argue that bikes have to follow ALL rules at ALL times and not say the same for peds & cars.

you want crosswalks and walk lights? don't jaywalk in the middle of a block.

    ever.

    right?

oh, i think everyone should follow the rules at all times. They are there to keep us safe.

But at the same time know that the law isnt 100% fair and if a pedestrian wanted to dance in the middle of the street and I accidently hit him with my bike or car, *I* would be in the wrong.

Also keep in mind that I might be driving a 1.5 - 2 ton vehicle at the time and thats a battle you dont want to be part of if you are on a bike going t he wrong way on a street. I dont mean it to sound like a threat as if i was going to be aiming for you, but I know I wouldnt want to get hit by a vehicle if my bike lost traction for whatever reason and a car was coming right at me.

I like it, but it should say "My Life" and we can use it to break up with people

so you don't j-walk, run yellow lights, do a 3-point turn in the middle of a block or park in bike lanes? Because all those things are on par or worse than going 2 blocks the wrong way in a bike lane.

you (and this whole thread) have singled out bikers for 'picking and choosing' which laws to follow, as if pedestrians and cars don't do the same (or worse). All three groups break laws constantly, to give special attention to bicyclists or riding the wrong way for a block doesn't seem particularly justified.

As I said, this biker was more in the wrong for being a jerk, not for riding the wrong way (Unless, as vidro said, he was riding the wrong way for 20 blocks).

So that photo is from a bicycle race in Matamoros, Mexico, where a drunk driver fell asleep at the wheel, plowing into the pack of racers. 1 dead, more than 10 injured.

Funny? I think that's pretty fucked up.

This isn't about whether bikes should ride down the block the wrong way. This is about an appropriate response when someone calls you on something that you are doing that is wrong. If I jaywalk and someone says to me "You really need to wait for the light" is that reason enough for me to curse at them and call them names?

There is a better way to respond than "Shut the F&*# up and get a life". Mr biker was lucky he didn't say that to someone who would have punched him in his dumb wrong-way-riding ass.

No, actually, as the OP, it is really about going the wrong way in a bike lane at full speed.

Yes, we all break the rules sometimes.

BUT, I would much rather see a bicyclist riding slowly and cautiously on the sidewalk (in either direction, pedestrian traffic permitting) than going full speed the wrong way in a bike lane. This was on Bergen b/t Flatbush and 5th, a narrow, busy, one-way bus route street with parking on both sides.

What if someone was going the right way in the bike lane with the B65 right next to them? What then for the 'professor' going the wrong way? Do you think it would matter if it was 'only for half a block'?

Some things just should not be done. And this guy was wearing a helmet, he should have known better.

Of course if the 'professor' had just said 'Sorry' or something like, we might never have had this most entertaining thread.

of course, we all would prefer people not posting passive aggressive threads to tell us how they were insulted after yelling at someone making a minor transgression. I mean, what's next, a thread about someone telling you to sit on it after you scolded them for spitting their gum out on the street?

    srsly, stfu.
