edited November -1 in Greenwood Heights and Sunset Park
We lost our puppy in Sunset Park on Sunday, June 28th, at about noon. He was last seen by some of the locals at the corner of 47th Street and 5th Avenue, moving south (towards 48th Street).

Breed: Schipperke. Age: approximately 9 months. Coloring: solid black. Other identifiers: two scars on his stomach from neutering.

He does not have an embedded microchip. He was not wearing tags.

He ran out the front door in the company of his play-pal, an all-white American Eskimo, female, 13 years old. She came back. He did not.

Reward offered.

Please call 718/854-5959. Ask for Russell.

    Anastasia,

    Thanks very much for offering.

I wanted to do that earlier, but I don't know how.

Can you give me some kind of guidance here?

    Thanks!

    Russell -

Look at the Ask Brooklynian section near the bottom of the forums page.

Make sure you don't hit "quick reply" - hit "post reply" or you won't get the option to add an image.

Also, please call the CACC and local vets, plus FIDO to let them know your dog is missing...just in case somebody reports him

(and I hope that he comes back safe and sound...and that when he does you'll get him some tags and a chip)

    Thanks, Flexichick!

Will do. (He's actually not my dog...he belongs to my sweetie, who was down here visiting from Pelham

nope...did you read the instructions? did you post it to Flickr or another site first, and then copy the location, etc.? it looks like you just tried to copy it direct from your pictures on your pc without uploading it somewhere first.

    Right you are.

Sorry...I didn't realize I first had to post it elsewhere.

Let me see what I can do on that front.

Also, the tag should read .

I was out this morning with my fat dog and kept my eyes open. No puppy yet! Also, you might want to post flyers - they really do work.

    Anastasia,

Thank you very much for the open eyes!

We did right after the puppy disappeared -- for a radius of about half a mile.

Russell, you still have to upload the photo to flickr or another online photo storage place. Sorry!!

make sure it's the jpeg file ext between the bbcode so it's pulling from the right source (hit preview before posting too, will prevent dud picture posts ;) ). I'll pass that photo and info along to friends in that area. I'll be there this weekend too so i'll be sure to keep an eye out, hope everything works out!

very distinguishable littel fella so hopefully someone will recognize him! if ya havent yet get those flyers posted at the subway stops and corners and stores and all that. also in surrounding neighborhoods. best of luck!

also, what's the little guy's name? that might be helpful in getting him to come close enough to not get away should he hopefully be spotted.

    Dear Rtraindweller,

    You're a hell-of-a guy. Thanks very much.

    Russell

    P. S. Re the flyers, we plastered the neighborhood the same afternoon he disappeared...then plastered it again a week later. No help.

I live right near the park, and I never saw any flyers.

    Kikintina,

We didn't hit the park (Sunset Park, that is), except for in-person visits. I live on 47th St. When we checked with some folks at the corner of 47th and 5th, they told us they'd last seen the puppy headed in the opposite direction -- i. e., towards 48th St.

Paper the park anyway. There are tons of us who show up for off-leash hours that come from all over the nabe, we talk. You never know...someone new might show up with a "new puppy."

    Anastasia,

Will do. Thanks, as always, for being on the look-out and for keeping up the interest.

I suspect by this point whoever might've found him is going to be feeling somewhat possessive. It may not be easy to convince the new mommie or daddy (or kiddie) to give him up.

That's what the cops are for, if that's the case. I'd slaughter someone who thought they were gonna keep my wittle puppy nugget!

Pretty phunny. So would this little guy's owner (who's not me, by the way. I just live here.)

    All's well that ends well.

Puppy found and recovered in Bay Ridge.

Thanks to all for your moral support.

Yes! That's great news. We love happy endings :-)

    How/where was puppy found?
  • russell
    russell
A guy by the name of William called us...said he thought he knew the whereabouts of the dog. However, he was fairly certain the guy who had him wouldn't give the puppy up without a fight.

We met at the 68th Precinct Police Station on his recommendation...tried to enlist the help of the police, but they had other, more important things to do.

We finally went to the guy's house, I paid him $200, and he gave up the dog. We gave William $100 for leading us to the source.

End of story. The puppy is now on his way back to Pelham, NY, in Westchester County.

wow. I'm glad you got the puppy back but it sucks that you had to pay people to do so and that the cops didn't want to help.

Please have your girlfriend get some tags on him and have him microchipped in case he gets these crazy ideas in his head again :-)
  • russell
    russell
    Flexichick,

I'm sure she'll do that first thing in the morning.

It was her money, by the way. She was quite willing to pay it to get her puppy back.

It's not that the cops didn't want to help. They are, for better or for worse, responsible for dealing with a different (and far more difficult) species: our own.

Yes, they may have had more pressing criminal activities, but that guy should have given you the dog back w/o having to pay him (I like that you gave the guy who gave you info the money - since it doesn't sound like he was the shady one).

I would pay $$$ to get my babies back in a heart beat, but I would NEVER think of making somebody pay me to get their animal back. In fact, I've found a few animals and reunited them with owners over the years and I won't even take a reward...it's just good karma. I hope my babies never disappear, but if they did, I am hopeful somebody will take good care of them until we are reunited.

Anyway, I'm glad you have a happy ending. Give puppy a big lecture, and then some treats and lots of keeeeeeeses!
  • russell
    russell
Puppy already got BIG lecture...then lots of keeeeeeeeeeses.

The guy was all about money. The guy had a habit to feed. The was about money from the get-go. (Not William, who was anything but shady.)
