the pop-up Toys R Us store on Flatbush has closed (but the seasonal HR block across the street has opened...can the daffodils be far behind?)

Hog Mountain, quality rugged manly gear, is closing on 5th Ave, across from Bierkraft - $35 Levi's while they last...

Extraordinary, the gift shop on that same block, closed after Xmas. A vegan pan-Asian place opened next door, and work is being done on the former pizza place also in that little clump.

    and

Lucas Foods across from the Coop -- *that* was fast.

So sad...just spoke to the owner of the fab vintage store Under the Pig (located on 5 Ave between 4th and 5th Streets) and he said they're closing up shop for good. This is the third store they've had in the Slope in the past 12 years or so.

Sign for Park Slope Veterinary Center coming soon on the corner of 4th ave and 19th st. As a dog owner, I'm not at all in need of another vet. A really quality daycare, maybe, but not vet.

This place was in business a long time. I have no idea how they survived that long. Anyone ever shop there?

Don't think this one has been mentioned:

Mama Rosa's (I think that was the name) is in the old Elementi (and many other businesses in recent years) spot on 7th Ave, near Key Foods. Looks like a non-fancy Italian place--probably hoping to do lots of take-out and delivery by the looks of the menu taped in the window. The name baffled me since I thought that one of the mexican places was named Mama Rosa's, so someone tell me if I got the name wrong.

    Actually it's Da Nonna Rosa

Ah, Da Nonna Rosa makes more sense I guess. The sign I saw was kind of hard to see/read and the menu that was in the window when I was there didn't have a business name on it.

Not only did I never shop in there, but I never saw ANYONE shop in there. I never saw a single person in that place.

Add Tower Electronics ("OWER") on 5th and 13th to the list of casualties. For rent by owner. Guess last summer's window AC rush wasn't enough this year.

    Taqueria Reis is gone too.

I confirm that Taqueria in 7th avenue is closed. Sad sad situation. I cannot but feel bad for the kind people who used to work there.

A notice in the window says the closing was effective yerterday. Cannot understand why. Everytime I was there they had customers. Great burritos, tacos and other items. I do not know where I will get such good Texmex at such reasonable prices.

Could it be the rent, a landlord situation? Today they had an auction for their equipment. I hope something decent comes in their place.

Sad to see it go- a combination of rent being too high and not enough demand for a takeout-only burrito joint, most likely.

Article and photo of their goodbye note here.

    @smw380 It's gonna be a kid-friendly comfort food place. http://heresparkslope.blogspot.com/2011/01/what-to-expect-ps-bklyn-833-union.html

So when Artesana closed, it said they would consolidate into El Milagro on 11th Street.... but now I see El Milagro's windows are all papered up.

    Renovation, or domino effect?

  • danielj

They're just renovating to prepare for Artesana, which will be closing at the end of the month.

to answer my own question, it's Joe's 718-832-2525. Average store-front, better than average pizza IMHO.

The bodega on the corner of 4th and 18th st has a for rent sign up after being closed by the health department 343452 times, but I wish someone would actually take over the space instead of it sitting for forever, which is going to happen. I'm wishing a fun coffee or sandwich shop would open there. Don't need any more bodegas. Earth's Basket rules.

New Columbian restaurant just opened in the Polio space (5th Ave 5/6 Sts). New yogurt store "Cultures" will be opening in the old Serene Rose space (5th Ave, 3/4 Sts)

City Casuals on 7th Ave just put up a going out of business sale.

The Columbian restaurant is a great addition to the neighborhood. Yesterday I had a light dinner, guacamole made at the table and shrimp salad. The staff couldn't have been nicer. The complementary glass of wine was excellent. I plan to go back next week.

BTW went back to Joes pizza a couple of times. I'm downgrading them to average. The amount of sauce and cheese on the pizza seems to have diminished from initial visit.
