See, I love the concept and would buy one for my 5-month-old niece in a nanosecond... just not for $40. I need to figure out home screenprinting and make my own!

I hate to say it but if I ever have a kid, he/she is going to have exactly that kind of thing, but I think I would go slightly more obscure and have to go Megan's route.

We had a good rice & beans place a few years back. La Terrazza. I went there all the time. I loved their huevos with red beans, so yummy. and so cheap. And their green salsa. they were the real deal.

there used to be a good fish store on Fifth Ave . . . then they moved to a bigger space and went out of business. So sad. I think both the former locations are real estate offices now. (sniff)

Bar Tabac in Cobble Hill has pretty good mussels and frites. Not to expensive and you can sit outside when the weather is good.

Remember the vaguely disgustingly named Cheese in the Park? It was on the corner of 9th Street and 7th Avenue -- I think there's a realtor there now. It must have closed 10 years ago. It had great cheese (of course), bread, jams, teas, and various precious picnic items but it was good, and sadly, it's gone.

Especially down by 5th - not really a single newstand/candy store - just Bodegas with a few papers and maybe a magazine or 2.

I do miss that place. I remember the cheese but not the bread. They didn't bake it anyway, did they, or am I forgetting that too? I wouldn't mind a good cheese shop now that you mention it, though I guess Blue Apron has that covered to some extent.

I used to like that place too. They've closed and been replaced by that new Greek place.

One would be very hard pressed to find a more comprehensive selection than the two full counters at Bierkraft. Blue Apron and Divine Taste are OK, but Bierkraft is on a different plane when it comes to cheese.

Bierkraft is also selling draft beer to go in 64oz jugs. They are specializing in beers not available in bottles, and even have a Rouge beer filtered through three filters of fresh hops. Quite impressive (for all the beer geeks on the board).

I needed an HDMI cable for my new plasma and had to treck it to PC richards, I needed a USB Adaptor, a Replacement plug for my Treo, a USb HUB, A wireless router, A Network print server and on and on and on....What? Park slopians aren't tech savy!?!

Actually very.... but I live in PS so I aint using no HDMI cable so that the man (the networks) can decide to restrict my ability to record programing. (HDMI allows DRM to be put into the digital stream)

As for buying such stuff - there is a cool computer reapir place on 9th St between 5th and 6th - but in the end if you dont want to get ripped off use newegg.com or B&M Best Buy - no small mom and pop can match the low prices available on electronics from big suppliers.

OK sorry to veer off topic but I have to ask what you mean by that - I am having a plasma installed (with HDTV) and Cablevision is replacing my box with a HDTV box that will allow me to record a la Tivo style. Are you saying that it will not be possible? Please help because it is not a small investment. Thanks
