I always see drivers running the red light there after it changes, so they can get to the next red light 20 yards away. This "right" is objectively more important than anyone's safety.
/sarcasm

I hope she'll recover as well.

At least twice a week, I almost get run over by some driver whipping around the corner onto Flatbush without even thinking that there might be a pedestrian in the crosswalk. It's so dangerous. My heart goes out to the victim and his/her family and I hope he/she pulls through, but I do hope this gets into the media so drivers might actually think twice before behaving so recklessly.

MOD NOTE: Moved here from "Helicopters????..." thread

This has changed nothing. Yesterday I saw 4 cars run the red light on Flatbush. And another one which did a violent U turn through the crosswalk after I had started crossing with dogs, coming within inches of hitting one of my charges.

I chased down the car as it was parking to inform them of Tuesday morning's incident and that their driver's behavior was reckless. They were pretty confrontational at first, saying "find somewhere else to walk your dogs," but calmed down after I pointed out Ms. Wallace's roadside memorial. We parted ways with them apologizing and offering "peace" and "one love" remarks; but I wonder if it will change their future behavior.

    =D>

By the way, I happened to be driving Northbound on that very stretch of Flatbush yesterday around 5:45pm.

And yesterday it was a few dollar vans' turn to rev up the ol' shock and awe.

There were 4 or 5 of them and apparently they were trying to out-race eachother to be the first to pick up passengers, and as such they were running the red lights at Plaza St. and St. Johns, flooring it in the right (parking spaces lane) until coming upon a parked car then veering sharply 2 lanes across traffic to get to the fast lane to floor it through the Sterling St. light etc..

And like I said, it was 4 or 5 of them cutting eachother off and veering right across other cars paths as it suited them, causing several other cars to have to slam on their brakes at various points to avoid collision when being cut off from a van coming directly beside them.

Needless to say there was absolutely no regard for any pedestrians that may have been in the mix.

Certainly not all dollar vans drive this way (and many provide a needed service), but these 4 or 5 were certainly hell-bent to "win it." yesterday.

And I thought of this thread.

pmonk, your comment about it being Death Race 2000 is dead on, Flatbush in particular.

I drive both frequently and my impression is that it's the same level of idiots doing the same sort of idiot driving, but narrower down there (with more double parking causing things to narrow down to just one lane. Yep, one lane. On Flatbush. People cutting eachother off like mad. Yipes.

But maybe that's what you're referring to, ha.

On the bright side, the PS/PH stretch of Flatbush gets extended to 3 lanes (and even 4 nearest to GAP) during rush hours so it flows quite a bit better, albeit with what would seem to be roughly the same number of morans.

But I guess that leads to more high-speedsters, dunno.

There seem to be a lot of folks from further out in Brooklyn that like to just blow right through Flatbush, PH etc. at any cost. Why do I say further out? Because when I have to haul stuff a few times a week and not simply subway it into Manhattan, my drive often takes me from where I am in PLG (part of Flatbush) clear to the Bridges. And so many of the troublemakers I see start and end well past where I begin and end.

    But eh, city driving, whatever.

this intersection drives me nuts - last weekend in broad daylight two cars crossed flatbush on st. marks through a light that had been long red when i (8 mos pregnant), my toddler (on a tricycle) and an elderly woman with a cane and shopping bags were all in the middle of the crosswalk. they weren't driving slowly, either - barrelling through to take advantage of the fact that flatbush was backed up momentarily. insane.

    Hi guys,

So, your friendly watchdog is back with a new gripe. BAD DRIVERS
(People who make dangerous, inconsiderate, asinine decisions behind the wheel)

Before you turn the key in the ignition of your car remember that I am driving around Brooklyn armed with a camera waiting to capture your stupidity.

First I want to give a shout out to the guy in the white van who actually drove over the island on Flatbush Ave. and ST. Marks (almost taking out three people), proceeding to bang on the windows of the cars who blocked the box and stopped his van in the middle of an active intersection screaming profanities.
    You are my inspiration.

    Next up...

The post and pics of the girl who drove with no hands.

(Who can keep their hands on the steering wheel when they are busy holding a cell phone and coffee?)

I encourage you all to post the crazy antics in the street, but do so with care and consideration for your fellow man.

And it's so much fun avoiding these folks when I'm on my bicycle!

I don't drive around in a 3,000 pound suit of armor called a car, and I'm not supposed to be on the sidewalk. So I share the road with these with just a helmet, gloves, me, and 20 or so pounds of bike under me.

I'd love pictures... perhaps if I can get my phonecam out fast enough I'll submit some.

Hey, I was at a red light when I snapped pics of the idiot on the phone who almost plowed into my car while a sleeping child was in the back seat.

But yes, don't film and drive. :)

pull over and take as many pics as you can!

So here is what made me so upset.

As I was driving down Wyckoff street at a nice steady pace of 20 ish miles per hour, I begin to approach 4th ave, the light turned green before I reached the
intersection and so I slowed down only a bit to make sure there were no renegade crossers.

I guess this girl decided that she wasn't going to stop for the light that had been red on her side because she slowed down and then suddenly sped into a right turn. I was already crossing the intersection so if I had been going any faster she would have hit me or me her because she made such a stupid move.

People make stupid moves every day but then I realized that she was deep in a phone conversation (head tilted to the side and all) I was so upset that someone could be so reckless and inconsiderate. I watched her in her side mirror as she continued to yap all the way to Flatbush ave, where I then pulled up next to her at a red light and suggested she hang up the phone while driving because she almost hit me and my kid.

She rolled her eyes and shook her hand at me and rolled up her window.

So here she is... Motor mouth (get it) lol
I really hope that no one gets hurt because this air head couldn't make better decisions.

No we were both still in the second pic, that's why I was able to snap the pic... She was yapping on the phone for at least 10 blocks.

After brushing me off about almost hitting me, and running the red light.

My father would have thrown a handful of pennies at her windshield, but I know that would have only made things worse.

Oh and I have the plate number, I just figured if I posted in she might get stalked, since it seems when I post images they go public these days.
    lol

I would much rather someone recognize her dumb-ass and say hey your on Brooklynian.com running your mouth on the cell phone while driving and you almost caused an accident with a lady in her car with her kid.

hmmm. It might make her think twice about doing that again.

My absolute favorite was this Sunday right by the BQE entrance at Atlantic Avenue.

This 1990s spike haired bimbo (should have been clue one that she was NOT in touch with reality) in a black SUV (PA plates but frame had a Bklyn dealership) nearly plowed into me because she just HAD to get into the right lane (no signal of course) irregardless who was already there.

This beeyotch did not stop jabbering on her cell phone (yup, not hands free) for a nano-second. I was so pissed that I tail-gated her for a few exits. She had the balls to give ME the evil eyes.

I doubt she is on this site but if anyone can pass along three tips: Beeyotch, your hair is outdated, your driving sucks and you don't appear to be a surgeon on an emergency run to the hospital - so put down the stinking phone!
