I work in Midtown and take the C from Clinton/Washington ONLY because it brings me directly to my office. I'll never wax poetic about the C train.

However, my office is moving, and I'll be taking the Q, which I like quite a bit more - fewer stops being the reason.

    The N. It goes fast.

Of course, my all time favorite train is Night Train, which you can't find around here any more. Thanks, hipsters.

The F lumbers, but it gets you where you want to go in midtown.
To work? It's the 2/3 ... lets me off downstairs from work.

I used to take the N train. I think N stands for NEVER-- which is how often it runs in the evenings/weekends... although that might have been due to the fact that I lived all the way out in bumfuck Bensonhurst before moving to PS. I think the plane to Florida is faster; technically Florida is closer!

Not only is the B fast, it stops near DelFrisco's AND the little dumpling place in Chinatown that sells pork'n'chives dumplings 5 for a buck!

Oh, and going over the East River is always better than going under it...

I'm thinking of the place one street east... a block south of Milk & Honey.

Got it- it's on Eldridge. I like it better than the one that you're talking about. Take the B to Grand, head east to Eldridge, go one block uptown on the east side of the street.

Oh, and you can buy 'em frozen, too- 25 for $5.

I like the Q. Wife and I go to midtown. I take the NJT 2 days a week to my school/teaching gig so 2/3 would make more sense, BUT walking from Herald Sq to Penn Station is still qucker by about 5 minutes. When I go to UMDNJ for meetings on our research (rarely) I take the 2/3 to Nevins Street and switch to the 4 to Fulton Street then walk 1 block to the PATH train.

My fave is the J shuttle that everyone who takes the 4 late at night or on the weekends will be getting very familiar with. Why? Because if I'm ever in Williamsburg or downtown Manhattan, that's one less train I have to take.

Q Train in a landslide- 12 minutes to canal st, 15 to Union Sq., 25 tops to Times Square, plus it always runs express.

What is the J that Candicissima talks about?

gotta be the Q, baby. not the Q-tip or the Q-ball, i'm talkin' 'bout the Q-TRAIN.

    a) it's fast like lightning
    b) hello! the view from the manhattan bridge!
    c) it goes where i wanna go (chinatown, union square, and franklin shuttle+q+42nd st shuttle = faster ride to gct than the 4)

    and

    d) it's tied with the z for coolest letter. wins quewlest in a landslide.

    oh, and

    e) best flyers. my favorite (paraphrase): "Are you a promiscuous female? Call a promiscuous male" followed by a phone number. there's a story there, i tell you what.

    so, in conclusion, QQQQQQQQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thank You.

I love my 2 or 3 train. Home to office in 20 minutes (including the walk to the Bergen St. station).

    oh, c train, you rock,
take me where I need to go!
    smell like piss and beer!

    other trav'lers
    resent your scruffy beauty
    but they're ign'rant fools.

    I leave home early
    thinking you'll never come by
    but, love, there you are!

    sometimes right on time
    sometimes forty minutes late,
    you always surprise!

    you'll never leave me...
    I'll wait forever for you
    near the wary cop.

    Lumber into Hoyt
and be sure not to leave there
    sans my loving heart!

in all seriousness, I do appreciate the C train, if only for its

    a) proximity
    b) directness (to W. 4th)
    c) always interesting, nay, fascinating nature (both in the train itself and in its passengers)

But, for speed, the Q rules. The 2,3 blows for speed...all the local stops in Blyn and lower manhattan slow it down SO MUCH. I could beat it up to Harlem on my bike any day.

I read on a subway geek site that C trains have large headways (time between trains) "just in case." No elaboration on that on the site. Yikes.

Sometimes I take oldest daughter to school (St. Saviour) and catch the F to the A at Jay Street to go to Midtown. My current record is 1:15 from 9th St to Penn Station. 45 minutes of that was the F sitting just before the Bergen Street Stop and the change at Jay Street. It usually averages about 45 minutes. Give me the poky 2/3 any day.

I have too many choices - going from Eastern Pkwy/Brooklyn Museum to 51st/Lex.

Sometimes I take the 2/3 to Nevins, transfer for 4/5 to GCT, then 6 one stop.

Sometimes I take 2/3 to Franklin, get on 4/5 there, take to GCT, then 6 one stop.

Sometimes I take 2/3 to Franklin, shuttle to B, transfer for V at Rock Cent, take to Lex.

Sometimes I take 2/3 to Franklin, shuttle to C, transfer for E at Canal, take to Lex.

Catch my drift? all my options SUCK...

walk to the B/Q. you could either hop the 6 at union square, or take the B and transfer to V.

All the going back toward Franklin options are ridiculous.

You should either do the 2/3 to Nevins to the 4/5 to GCS to the 6,

    OR (faster)

walk to the 7th Ave Q train, take it to Union Sq and switch for the 6 (or if and only if the 4/5 comes before the 6 at Union Sq, take the 4/5 one stop to GCS to the 6).

During rush hour the 6 is often faster than the 4/5 from 14th to 42nd.
