Whole Foods moving forward again?

Looks like Whole Foods is finally getting moving on its site at 3rd/3rd. For the time being it doesn't look like we should expect more than a brownfield cleanup, but at least it's something.

I for one would be excited to have Whole Foods there.

Nowhere in the above statement is it implied that the poster will only shop at non-union places. People are seeing what they want to see in that statement.

I'm glad to hear about this moving forward. I love Whole Foods, though I wish it were closer to my home. Maybe the imminent Atlantic Yards site will eventually get a satellite location?

Atlantic Yards would make more sense as a Whole Foods location, except they own the Gowanus site already, right? That and Pathmark might have something in their lease about exclusivity.

I've forgotten how the Superfund site politics of all this plays out -- is WF for Superfund status or against like Toll Bros developers?

You'll be in the minority of customers who "get it." Mackey recently stepped down as board chair because his viewpoints were so potentially toxic to WF's consumer base.

Unions are the scourge of industry and have destroyed American manufacturing. And global warming is a debunked theory perpetuated by people trying to steal more taxpayer funds. Whole Foods has done a great thing for America by providing organic food at more affordable prices across the country.

Yep. Read it. Still don't believe in unions. And for the record I don't fart from my brain. If you don't believe me I can show you.

WingedEarth, couldn't agree more on unions. We can't compete globally with them which is why companies like Wal-Mart succeed internationally. Unions destroyed the American car industry. Many blame management, but I'm sorry, what is management to do when it can't offer new products because money is tied up in guaranteed promotions/pay increases/pensions that car companies world-wide don't have to deal with. The world has changed and unions are a thing of the past.

I'll stay out of the union conversation, but:

Whole Paycheck Foods = affordable?

It's true... if we insist on paying common people livable wages, we will be less competitive in the global markets.

Therefore we should reduce the minimum wage to less than $1.00 per hour, and force people to put their little children to work in sweatshops, their women in brothels, and their men in the coal mines.

We should forget about solar power, biofuels, and other "green" fuels, and concentrate on oil, gas and especially coal. Open up the shale deposits to gas extraction. It doesn't matter whether they foul the NYC water supply, because our factories will be so much busier and corporate management will make so much more money that executives can all drink Perrier all of the time. It will go much better with the organic foods they will buy at Whole Foods.

As for the common folk, screw 'em!
