Booklaw's "RIP Uprising (Bakery)" got me thinking about places that have gone but are sorely missed.

Mine include:

- Max & Moritz

um....I'm stumped right now, but I am sure there are more

The old cousin John's on 9th & 7th Ave., The Italian sandwich shop that was accross the street, I can't recall the name but it made the best heroes!

Bellemelios was an "appetizing" store. Had every kind of cream cheese known to man, brought in from Amish country, every kind of lox and other smoked fish you could possibly want, and various other delicacies. Plus the proprietor was a lady with a big, delightful personality.

Even earlier (late 70's), there was a very nice tiny appetizing shop on Berkeley Place just below 7th Avenue, with great cheeses, pates and other stuff.

There also used to be about three butcher shops on 7th Avenue, all of which have closed.

Finally (for me), I miss the Kosher-style deli on 7th Avenue near Berkeley Place.

Scouting Party, All for Paws, Cocotte, New Prospect Cafe (esp. the takeout on 7th),

how about McFeeley's on Union St. We positively LIVED there every Friday night for years!

    Never really understood:
    Charlies on Flatbush Ave
    Raintrees on 9th

Before Charlies opened on Flatbush, there was another, much older restaurant in the same space, called Michelle's. At that time there were very few ambitious restaurants in the Slope.

Was Raintrees the name of the restaurant at 9th and Prospect Park West? I liked that restaurant. They had a very nice steak au poivre.

What was the name of the ice cream place on PPW and 9th Street? When they closed, they locked the store kitty in there for over a week and the fire department had to come rescue it.

Didn't the ice cream place at PPW and 9th Street become Raintrees? They had the best brunches. Miss them and Bellemillio. Rita was the owner. After closing it down, she opened a new age bookstore, but sadly, passed.
