New Resto at Prospect and Vanderbilt???

Anyone have any idea what is going into the former Chris Creations space at the corner of Prospect and Vanderbilt? I walk by almost everyday and more often than not there is construction going on in the connected room in back of the storefront. It appears to be a kitchen of sorts and from the looks of it the new tenants are doing a nice job and putting a lot of money into the venture. I spotted some nice custom wood fixtures being moved into the space which makes me hopeful it will be well appointed whatever it is.. My guess is that is is going to be a bakery/coffee shop or (god forbid) ANOTHER pizza place due to the industrial mixer I've seen peeking out from behind the front gate/vestibule area.

Anyone have more than just a guess as to what will eventually open here?

It's going to be a bagel place. The owners are the people from Zaytoons.

603 Vanderbilt isn't on Prospect Place. Nor is Chris Creations across from Zaytoons.

Chris Creations permit says no change in use which it would be if it was going to start serving food, no?

RE: Zaytoons bagel place. Sounds promising. Let's just hope that they learned their lesson the first time and don't call it "B69 Bagel."

I also heard bagels. Saw them moving in some bagel-making stuff.

with all the trash talking i've heard the owners of the new bagel place doing (long before they open) about how they intend to put milk and joyce out of business i hope the place is a miserable failure. i'd take another muddy waters over this place and it hasnt even opened yet. I don't know that I will ever go back to zaytoons after some of the crap i've seen these guys pulling.

where has this trash talking been done? online? in person? i'd like to read and hear more about it.

first hand. the owner said it directly to me. that he is looking forward to putting milk bar out of business. he's a real douche, imho.

Sounds like a douche. And he has no chance of putting Milk Bar out of business. People love that joint.

agree that douche has no chance of putting milk bar out of business. milk bar is a formula that is perfect for this neighborhood. (probably) bad bagels, not so much. especially if the bagel shop is as dirty and disrespectful to the neighbors as zaytoons is. can't tell you how many times they've piled nasty garbage outside for days, had delivery trucks up on the sidewalk, left dog crap festering next to their cellar food prep area...nasty.

if the bagels are even half way decent i'd sooner give them my money than spend $10 on a few morsels at milk bar.

yeah, the bagel place has already been fined a few times for garbage disposal and hasnt been properly ventilating when they paint so the fire department has made a few visits. i remember seeing the fire dpt one time pouring water into the sewer through a bunch of hoses and it turned out some ass had poured all these flammable solvents down there and they were worried about an explosion. dont know if it was these guys or not, but it was that corner during their painting storm, so i got money on it was-- tho they'll deny it for the epa fines, no doubt.

hungry or not, i'd never give these guys a red cent.

As someone who is new here and does not know you, I have to assume from your over the top posts in this topic that you have an axe to grind. I'm giving your claims zero weight and plan to try the bagel place as soon as it opens.

That said, when I just want a single bagel, I get it at Prospect Cafe. They have Bagel Hole bagels.

Milk Bar looks ok from the outside, but it exudes a hipper-than-thou vibe that has kept me out (not to mention all the reports of so-so food at high prices). For me personally, it is not the sort of place I really want here in PH, but I will try it eventually.

    Nicholas,

you are new here and you don't know jayce.

The statements are not over the top, but that can be debated forever.

Minet- I said I don't know him or her in my own post.

Here is what jayce has accused the owners of new bagel place of:
    - "Trash talking" about putting Joyce and Milk Bar out of business.
    - Having been fined "several times" for garbage disposal.
    - Having improper ventilation when painting which resulted in the fire department making "several visits."
    - Pouring flammable solvents into their basement which caused the fire department to pour water in due to fear of explosion.
    - Having pending EPA fines. (I think this one was speculation.)

Even if jayce is the nicest most rational person in Prospect Height, these claims are over the top hysteria. If the fire department was actually concerned that the building might explode, would they pour water in the basement? How does this clear fumes? Wouldn't they evacuate the block like they do for a gas leak? Wouldn't they call a hazzmat team to clean hazardous solvents rather than washing them down the drain? It is possible some of the other claims are true, but I tend to doubt them given the context and lack of proof.

i do not want to debate the issues- that you don't actually know about.
    but...

    - "Trash talking" about putting Joyce and Milk Bar out of business.- True
    - Having been fined "several times" for garbage disposal.- True
    - Having improper ventilation when painting which resulted in the fire department making "several visits."- True
    - Pouring flammable solvents into their basement which caused the fire department to pour water in due to fear of explosion.(this was speculation)
    - Having pending EPA fines. (I think this one was speculation.) [i](never said there were pending fines- was said that they would deny the speculation of above for the fines /i]

maybe other people know things that you do not...

May we all move on now....

when they do open, I hope they are nicer to the neighborhood then the Zaytoons occurrences and that you get to enjoy your bagels in peace.

Possible, but I'm not in the habit of accepting things I read online without proof especially when the claims are this outrageous.

    Moving on...

Jayce may or may not have an axe to grind, but many of us have actually met her offline, and she was a valued member of our Brooklynian community long before Zaytoons even opened This is NOT someone who created an account just to spread shit about someone.

Can anyone provide links to some evidence for the claims against the Zaytoons/Olde Brooklyn Bagel business owners? If I can be shown that these claims are all true then I may decide to spend my money elsewhere, but I'm not going to avoid trying them based on internet message board assertions alone.

That is about as likely as you having made up the story about the toxic chemicals because you dislike the owners. Oh wait, you did make it up (or "speculated" according to your friend Minet).

My only interest in this nonsense is that I take exception to seeing a local independent small business being trashed before it even opens. If everything you claim is true, I'll be the first to boycott them. For what it is worth, I've never met the owners and have never even eaten at Zaytoons (but have been meaning to try it). In fact, I didn't even have particularly high hopes for their bagels as 99% of bagel places are awful. However, if we don't support local independent business people than we might as well invite the chain stores in. That is why I'd like to see them get a fair chance rather than being maligned by anonymous rumors.

Anyway, I'm really ready to move on from this discussion and hope others will too unless they have some proof or a source to offer up.

"Can't we all just get along" LOL I hope their trash talking was just b.s. Sounds petty. I'll let the bagels speak for themselves.

according to the brownstoner link, it's back to "olde brooklyn bagel shoppe." that ye olde shit sure worked wonders for the ice cream shoppe.

pathetic name but if they have good bagels, all is forgiven. brownstoner also suspects recent activity means they're going to open soon.

Agreed. Brought some bagels from my third favorite NYC bagel place (and third not because the bagels are particularly what I'm looking for in a bagel--Bagel Hole & H&H cornering that market--but because it's near my office and the bagels are still quite tasty and very fresh) to friends in NJ last week. The friends thought they were amazing. I know better. I've become such a bagel snob.
