I found the same topic but was from 2007.

Any suggestions you can give me would be great.

I am looking for a place where it is quiet, not to pricey (drinks under $10), not too romantic and open on mondays.

Thank you very much.

Sidecar, down near 16th St., fits the bill perfectly - maybe too perfectly, actually, as one of my friends has been taken there on first dates by two different guys. If you're not afraid of that problem, I'd highly recommend it.

Not sure about 'open on mondays' you'll have to call, but Canile (sp?) the french place is also right next to the chocolate room so you can have dinner and dessert.

Personally, for a first date I'd prefer a relaxed location where I could feel comfortable and not have the first-date awkwardness of a romantic/to overly thought out place. In this case a gastropub like Alchemy would be perfect or Melt (slightly more upscale but with a trendy manhattan vibe)

I second Sidecar and Alchemy. If you want to do drinks and dessert (as long as you both know the plan, I think this is pretty fun), Belleville.

I'm sure there will be some disagreement, but Coco Roco could be right. They have pretty good cocktails (and often have good specials on weeknights) and the menu has all kinds of small plates.

Also, you may want to check out Apertivo. Here's my take on a meal I had there, I really enjoyed it!

Service was great and attentive, free glass of sherry after our meal was a real plus. I can see myself going here on a 1st date

I love Alchemy but never tried Sidecar so maybe I'll try there tonight.
I thought about that French place Mamacita mentioned but I think they are closed on Mondays. I'll look into Apertivo too. Sonds nice.

    Thanks everyone!

Pretty sure Canaille is closed on Mondays, but I second Melt. Good food, good price points, not too romantic. Perfect.

Oh, Sidecar usually serves their tasty gumbo on Mondays.

Jeez.... you guys are just naming names or places... most of them aren't even on 5th AVE.

And no - I don't have a recommendation. Fact is, it doesn't matter.... If you guys are going to sleep together the place shouldn't really get in the way.

Try Thai Sky on 5th avenue at 6th st. It is a pretty space, food is good and not pricey, quiet enough to have a conversation, usually not full so you are not sahring your conversation with the next table.

lot2 is the best. it's on 6th avenue.

or get fresh table and market on 5th.

Lot 2 isn't even PS, though people will argue, it's all the way over 20th street. Car ride or subway trip from Bergen and Carlton where the OP lives. Have to agree with DR on this one.

Get Fresh is closed on Monday nights.

I live in Prospect Heighs and my date is coming from Cobble Hill so 5th avenue is perfect for both of us. Lot2 sounds good but it is too far for me. Most likely, we will be both walking.

ok, this isn't on 5th, but most of the good places on 5th are going to be closed mondays.

you want a TERRIFIC first date spot (one to surely impress) and IS open Monday, walk up to The Vanderbilt on Vanderbilt and Bergen.

the drinks are fantastic, the food small and perfect for sharing and A+ ambiance.

sure to be a hit. was for me.

Depends on when you went there. When they first opened there were tons of bad reviews and I believed them. I went there in July and had a great time and it changed my mind. I would totally go back, inexpensive too.

(I can only speak for the dishes I ate in my link, haven't tried anything else)

Went to Canaille on Valentine's, and it's no place for a relaxing meal - the guy running the show is just too manic and odd to be in that kind of environment.

Tacos Nuevos is inexpensive and tasty.

Al di La, 5th Ave. Convivium Osteria, 5th Ave. But I do have to say that I ate at Lot 2 on 6th (19th-20th) and it was excellent.

I was about to post..we met at 4th avenue pub, had a few beer together.
By the time we noticed it was already midnight so we decided to do the dinner on Thursday. So it went really well. Thanks everyone!

Losing track of time on a first date has to be a good sign that you hit it off.

So where does dinner happen on Thursday?

I was thinking of recommending Enzo's ( Italian food near the Pavillion).

Cheap but nice food, won't be too crowded and sit in the back where it is more private for conversation.
