Not many of the Caribbean places on Nostrand in CH offer sit down service or alcohol. They might be able to get traction if they offer this, and certainly have a big enough venue.

Whynot, I hope your're not suggesting that curry chicken can be served in anything other than a styrofoam container!

    It can be done!

This website provides some hints as to what may have transpired:

The ask was $165k for the existing business.

Very Busy Area. Lunchonette - Restaurant (apr. 800 Sq.ft.). Beautiful Design, Professional Equipment For Kitchen, Storage, Office, Back Yard And More. Its Being Sold With All Inventory. Rent $3,200 Per Month. Gross Income Up to $360k. Cash Deal!!!

I do wonder how long much longer the lease is for.

....my gut tells me that $3200 for 800 sq ft on this part of Nostrand is going to be very cheap, very soon.

That seems cheap right now but I don't have your extensive knowledge of real estate prices.

Seems like they still need to do some work before DOH will give them the go ahead to open. On 10/3/2013, DOH found:

Plumbing not properly installed or maintained; anti-siphonage or backflow prevention device not provided where required; equipment or floor not properly drained; sewage disposal system in disrepair or not functioning properly.

Non-food contact surface improperly constructed. Unacceptable material used. Non-food contact surface or equipment improperly maintained and/or not properly sealed, raised, spaced or movable to allow accessibility for cleaning on all sides, above and underneath the unit.

Note: I fear this is a big set back. I am told it takes a long time to arrange an initial DOH inspection, and that needing them to come back can take as long....

P.S. For those into flashbacks. It used to be known as Cheffy's

That's great news! I'm glad they were able to get their issues quickly resolved.

    Has anyone been yet?

I've walked by and the people working there seem to just be milling about. Now there is a sign out promoting a $5 lunch special.

I think this is a Trini or maybe Guyanese food, as opposed to many of the Jamaican places on the avenue. The menu is a mix of East/West Indian foods and flavors. Someone try it out and let us know what the deal is.

    No, you do it!

I am more than willing to try it first ..... if someone buys me the meal. ;)

no i am way too poor supporting my lula bagle habit and yelling at people who yell at me and skippy eating our bagel on the outside bench. WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?

    People yell at you? :(

I suspect people occasionally yell at Tsarina because she and her dog Skippy are quite famous on Nostrand, not because they inherently object to their existence.

yes. Some people feel that my dog sitting on a bench is highly offensive. even if it is a private bench, and the owner is down with it. Yeah I guess they do object to our existence. because we do not conform to their beliefs in whatever country they come from. Its okay they get worse than they give. Thats how we do it here. Live and let live. Reap just what you sow. etc. etc.

Have we determined whether they are actually different from the various other steam table places?

    1. They have seats and tables.

    2. Their lunch special is BANGING! Lots of food for $5.

    3. A Trini, Guyanese, and Jamaican chef. (I asked) So you're getting 3 styles of West Indian Food.

Excellent. Please create a new thread. This entity likely wants to not live in memory of Joey's
