PS Vet Recommendation?

Can anyone recommend a good vet in the neighborhood? The wife and I have been here for just under a month now, and we need to find a good vet for our beagle. We moved from the UWS (insert UWS-to-PS joke here) where we had a great but super expensive vet. I'm looking for one that is caring, doesn't charge an arm and a leg, and convenient. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Do a search and you will find this question has been asked an answered many times (search box near top of page).

My personal favorite is Prospect Park Animal Clinic on PPW and 5th St, but if you do a search you will find many different opinions.

I second the recommendation for Park Slope Vets - all vets there are good but I love Dr. Maddon - he is the cat whisperer

I also really like the PPW Animal Clinic. Fair prices, good treatment, and the people who work there (from the receptionist to the doctors) are friendly and personable. They're also incredibly sweet to the animals that come in, too.

Dr. Quim at PPW Animal Clinic was very good for us. In addition, if you need a 24 hr veterinarian or a specialist, I've had only good experiences with the Veterinary Emergency and Referral Group down on Warren St. in Cobble Hill.

6th ave animal clinic (at union street) has always been good to my pets

I second the vote for Dr Maddon at Park Slope Vets (nevermind their horrible website) - he seems to enjoy what he does so much it makes me want to quit my job and go to vet school. He also talks to you "on the level," i.e., never condescending, never over your head, gives lots of information, gives you his opinion and respects yours where appropriate on things, etc.

Hope Vet clinic.... it is worth the trip and the higher prices. We went here after going to another very popular vet for years. It is a world of difference. The Dr.'s and vet techs at Hope are extremely smart, and confident.

And yes I do judge the Park Slope Vets website... something like that does not instill confidence

Same here. Haven't had any emergencies, but I feel like they love animals and are conservative with treatments/vaccines. No pushing every shot out there on us, etc.

Animal Kind. Been going there for over 9 years, with 2 dogs.

Dr. Werner at Animal Kind. Nothing but good things to say.

Ho boy, here we go again! Suffice to say, many people (myself included) wouldn't bring a roach to the 6th Ave Cat Clinic.

We love love love Hope Vet in Boerum Hill. It's a slog from South Slope, but worth every minute. The atmosphere is wonderful and the vets (we use Dr Lishin) are great. Can't recommend them highly enough!

^ 6th Ave Cat Clinic or 5th Ave Cat Clinic? 5th Ave Cat Clinic killed my cat (in my opinion). I hope they rot in hell (especially Dr. Bregman for being a condescending asshole on top of it all)

I'm going to take a risk at kicking up the old controversy and recommend Dr. John Morehead from Animal Kind, who is a stand-up guy and a wonderful vet.

for emergencies, definitely warren street clinic.

i've been to each of these vets over the years for cats and dogs. but my vote stays with animal kind, with ringing endorsements for several vets, but maybe not for the establishment, itself.
drs. matyack and salas have each provided consistently competent and compassionate care for the 15+ years i've been takin my furry wonders there. same for dr. stronger at the emergency clinic.

I agree with all of this.

I personally recommend Dr. Marcela Salas at Animal Kind - especially for Chihuahuas.

Gotta shout my love for Prospect Park Animal Clinic on PPW & 5th Street.

Others have mentioned it but I have gone to a few different vets in the hood and they have the best approach - they let you dictate where the line between pet and animal and member of the family is (which is different for every family). Their care is top shelf and they have very accommodating hours.

You just can't go wrong there.

PPW Animal Clinic for sure. I've been going there forever and everytime I take one of the boys in I am super thankful to have such a great vet.

I have gone to Animal Kind in an emergency and my experience ranged from unimpressed to frustrated - not where you want to be when your pet is sick.

Wondering - is Dr Maddon the same one that used to be at PPW? My roommate and I used to joke about making up reasons to take in the dog or cat just because Dr Maddon was so *dreamy*

Yes, Dr. Maddon was at PPW - He is dreamy....but more important, he is a wonderful vet.

I remember the first time I met Dr. Maddon 14 years ago, I was bringing my dog to get neutered at PPAC. I was worried because I had taken Cheech to Animal Kind first and had a horrible experience with Dr. Gibson. Cheech had been abused by a man before I found him and would pee when he got scared. When I brought Cheech into the exam room I warned Dr. Maddon about it, his response? "Why do you think I dress like this?" and he immediately sat on the floor with Cheech to calm him. Of course, Cheech peed a bit and Dr. Maddon cleaned it up himself with paper towels like it was no big deal. That visit was so different from the one with Dr. Gibson that I felt completely comfortable leaving Cheech in Dr. Maddon's care.

That's just one of the many reasons I bring all my pets to Drs. Maddon and Parker at PSVC. They were Cheech's vets until the day he died last August and I couldn't be happier with them.
