St. Johns Hook-up and Cook-up, August 21st

If I were on the St. Johns block association, I would organize sidewalk cleaning days to clean the frickin trash that builds up in the tree wells on the block. I wonder if the party-goers, or the organizers, will clean up everyone's trash after the cook/blowout?! I'm going out of town early tmrw for a week, so I won't be able to make this happen. Will someone do it for me? ; ))
And let me know who wants to clean up trash with me some Sat. morning. Just think of how shocking it would be to some to see people on the block who actually care about something like that.

Tonight's party is going to be killer! Bang! Bang! :P

I saw mostly families eating when I went on my 7 PM walk.







I must say I was disappointed that I forgot to bring my wallet. Some of Kia's lemonade would have really hit the spot.

Looks pretty safe so far, hopefully the party gets shut down before the witching hour!

What happened? No shootings, I guess.

Like many NYC block parties, this one involved:

1. Meat grilling.

2. Beverages consumed in red cups, perhaps b/c the beverage was beer, but perhaps it because Diet Coke or Orange Crush (horrors!)

3. Children on tricycles and bikes with training wheels.

....then the sun went down!

and people:

a. Attempted to grill meat in the dark (somewhat dangerous!)
b. Hung out on their stoop with the people that lived in their building.
c. Eventually went inside to engage in more exciting forms of entertainment: TV? Computer? Sex? Washing Dishes?

Sounds like everything a block party should be. Glad to hear that St. Johns was able to pull of a peaceful, fun event for the neighborhood. I have no problem welcoming more of this in PH.

hey, im confused. there were signs posted that there was to be a block party on st. johns this past weekend but nothing went on.

I saw the signs too and then was surprised to see no one out-- maybe they changed the date because of the Washington Avenue Rocks event going on that day as well?

There was a party. Only it was at Mike Jones's building. He had a small group of people for a BBQ. Music was turned way down by midnight. A peace event.
