Has anyone tried it yet? My building got flyer-bombed by them today. The place looks new and clean, but I haven't seen it up close- just a drive-by observation.

oh man, thanks for the heads up - I will check them out this weekend! I wonder if the food is good, because their prices are half that of the new Island Thyme.

    Also, the logo is amazing.

    Damn, those prices are cheap.

...they must be planning on serving a lot of food in order to make ends meet.

Island Tyme better hope people are willing to pay for its atmosphere and location.

Yeeeaaaaa, I dunno. The picture of the roti has me a little nervous. I know they're on the healthy hook-up and all, but corn in your roti!??!

Ok, I stopped in this morning just to check it out. It is definitely Asian-inspired-Roti. They used Korean ginger-honey in their green tea that was delicious. That said, here's my experience:

Checked out the menu and decided on a simple egg-and-cheese sandwich. It's on their breakfast special list which has all items at $2 with a drink.

I got their green tea which was REALLY good - and goes for $1.50 on its own.

The sandwich was on bread, not a roll, and was made unlike any other sandwich I've had. I don't know about you, but when I make a sandwich I use 2 slices of bread. This one used 4.

It went: bread, scrambled egg, shredded cheese, ketchup (???), bread, bread, scrambled egg, shredded cheese, ketchup, bread.

Meaning it was like they made 2 sandwiches and put them on top of one another and then panini-pressed it. I ate 1/2 of the sandwich (which in my world is one sandwich). I guess for $2.00 it was fine - I'll certainly say "no ketchup" if I go back - who knew that was something I'd have to say?

The woman there was very friendly, but it took a looooong time for the food (and there were people who got there before me for roti still waiting when I left). They have tea-eggs for 50cents, so I may try an egg and some green tea sometime, but I wasn't overly impressed.

They have a roti (and roti bowl) menu where you pick what type of wrap (with a roti bowl you simply skip that step), the filling, three additional toppings/add-ins, and the type of sauce. It was like a roti-style chipotle. But again, I didn't try that.

LOL, wow that sounds really weird xlizellx. Ketchup?? Well I've got to say, at least the price was right. $2 is super cheap with a drink.

I've always enjoyed a little ketchup om my scrambled eggs. Seriously... No joke.

Yeah, I like hot sauce and ketchup in my egg & cheese sandwiches.

It tasted like I was 6-years-old again. It wasn't crazy like something unheard of to do, but crazy that they asked what kind of bread I wanted, how many eggs I wanted, what kind of cheese I wanted....and assumed the ketchup was a yes.

Ketchup should never be a given.

I like their motto of: "Health & Fresh"!

The cheap as sin prices do raise an eyebrow or two.., but I will venture over and give them a shot. Seems like for $10.00 I can have a 3 course international meal.

    Review coming soon...

    THE GOOD

    1. Quick, in-expensive food!

    2. Appears to be quality ingredients.

    3. Chicken Roti - chicken meat, corn, potatoes, chic peas, onions - I asked for no rice. $4.95

    4. 3 boiled chicken dumplings - $1.25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[b]THE QUESTIONABLE - But Good For Me

I'm not a fan of salt and or sodium laden sauces, that being said, even though sauce was added to my Roti, I tasted no added sodium, or Caribbean-esque flavors.

I personally loved just tasting the chicken, corn, onion, potatoes and chic peas, but for others, they made need more added flavors.

So for cheap as sin prices, for actual real food, this is the place!

It's clean, but its not dining in any sense. It's truly order, pay and go which is fine by me.

    The hours are 7AM - 8PM 7 days a week.

Only complaint is, while I admire hiring a young lady from the community, she needs a bit more training to be quicker & more confident with her undeniably friendly service.

Oh, and it's only 1 block South of Eastern Parkway. i have no idea why I thought it was further.

Its on the SE side of Union St right off of Franklin Ave.

I live only 2 blocks away from this restaurant, and going there for my three meals almost become my day off routine.

    Here are my favorites:

Breakfast: 2 egg /cheese wrap, sometimes ask for grilled chicken , for $2.00 and a fresh made soymilk is included.

lunch: a chicken roti for $4.25, honey ginger green tea included. plus 7 vegetable dumplings for $2.

dinner: a chicken fried rice + 7 chicken dumplings for $4.50.

the cashier, the girl who cooks too gives me discount when she is not busy :)She is a very friendly and pleasant person, by the way. I could eat her egg wrap every morning without getting bored.

Cons: they have coffee on the menu, but they seldom have it. They told me most people there don;t drink coffee. I want to try their blue mountain coffee since they always have a blue mountain coffee bean bag sitting on the counter.

Overall, i will continue to make it my kitchen as far as they keep with the good quality. In addition, I only eat at restaurants who have grade A. A friend of mine, who is a food inspector in the department told me that restaurant who get B or C are those that don;t even intend to keep clean, not talking about if they intend to provide good quality of foods. Any comments on this? Do you really care about the hygine grade at the entrance of restaruants?

I think that if you're a business owner and give half a shit, it really doesn't take much to keep your business up to standards to get that A. I hold a current NYC Food Handlers license, btw. Not that that means much, but it does cover the new grading system and it's a perfectly reasonable system.

That said, I have heard rumors, and they ARE rumors, that the grading system has become a racket with payoffs to inspectors and restaurants that aren't 'in' getting crappy grades just because.

I think it may be just a romor. The inspector I know is in his 20s, and he told me all his coworkers are in that age range, who graduated from college and has worked for the city for 2,3 years and then been assigned to this job.

You know, young people who just start working, are not so jaded and will not dare to mess up with their new career.

He says he doesn't even take an offer of tap water.

Today I just tried their chicken dumplings and there Roti wrap. It was some of the best food I ever had, most important their prices are very low. This is great if your pockets are running a little low on cash. This resturant model is a great model to have. I showed ask the owners if they are franchising out the model. I would definitely like to open up my own Roti and dumplings

I don't know what's going on here, but I like the food there. My boyfriend and I have always complained that there are not decent restaurant in our block. R& D is satisfying our needs with quality of food and reasonable price. They will have grand opening next weekend. I will definitely take all my friends there to sample some dumplings. I want to support a local restaurant which came to our block first and tried to contribute to the community. If our come to our block, you know what I mean. This block needs some changes. I am tired of those Caribbean stewed food or junk hamburger delis.

It is this board's tradition to actually avoid places that are being promoted by posters who do not disclose their relationship to a business.

You should be aware that some readers will avoid businesses even without proof that the posters are shilling.

You might not want not to do your favorite business a disservice by risking such an outcome.

They're on living social today. Spend $7 to get $15 worth of food.

If you buy, my only advice is to take a large crew -- literally I could get 12 breakfast combos for that amount of money.
