    Slopeduder-

You should let the police know. Your info could help them determine what actions (if any) they should take against the kids who hang out in the park.

However, I suspect they will have to see a new crime be committed or have a cooperative witness.

If it happens again I will! I think someone cleaned it though because it wasn't there for long, maybe 2 weeks max. Either that or it was a crappy marker and it just faded away from all the rain we had.

I once had a zen friend who ran a bar, he compared him having to clean up magic marker from the bathrooms, to a NYC suburban homeowner having to rake up leaves in the fall.

He will live to be 90, I am sure of it.

    Puck-

You have quite an admirable work ethic, as well as a hobby that brings joy to others.

    Cheers

Someone stated that "Gentrification" is to blame but I disagree. The problem was there even before we(hipsters) moved into the neighborhood.

    Change is good.

It's funny that these same kid gang members can walk the streets, take the subway, go to school with the nastiest rap/hiphop playing through their smart phone, yelling words that should make anybody sick to their stomach, but they should check it at the gate of a park? Pull up their pants for the park only?

Get a grip, the park may say it's some kind of safe zone but some research about what the under 18 crowd is doing and saying to each other throughout the day may be helpful. If you don't want your kid smelling pot and hearing "son" or "my nigga"or "f-ck" move out of Brooklyn. When you relocate don't take the shocking subway where asscrack, underwear and all thing in between are the norm not the exception. Looking at the photo from the story many of those young folks may get a load of loot from an NYPD suit from some type of mishandling of the situations that arise. White folk may not think that a card or dice game in the park is unacceptable but it is by a broader community standard.

SoldierSantana said, among other things, "This sort of journalism really sickens me. Anyone who believes and supports this sort of journalistic dribble is a racist buffoon in my book." I thought the word was 'drivel'.

The solutions to this problem are lower taxes and fewer restrictions on gun ownership.

I am sorry if I offend anyone by suggesting to read the news item closer. The woman speaking first is a Latina, and her reason to get bothered is that two chaps almost knocked down her toddler girl.

I have seen these types of episodes at playgrounds, and yes, at the Lincoln Place Playground. It makes me sick to my stomach to think that people can come here and throw around patronizing about how saintly and how wonderful are these teenagers and young men.

These teenagers and young men are bad mannered fools who do not care about behaving with a minimum of decency and care around young children. This, not only by talking trash but also by choosing to act rudely towards each other and the people around them.

I wish someone were to take a video, yes. However, I have witnessed a situation in which a parent trying to do just that was threatened to have his phone (and his face) smashed. The police should put cameras in these spots, perhaps then these shameless people would think two times before acting up or even showing up.

They are not saintly. They are teenagers.

and like it or not they are your neighbors.

and it sounds like they are acting just like me (ack) thirty years ago.

Am I wrong, or isn't it illegal for adults to hang around in NYC playgrounds unless they're accompanying children?

  • homeowner

It is "illegal" (against parks department rules)but then again, this is a playground with other facilities in and around it, and the city will be hard pressed to show that teens and adults are bared from using the regulation basketball courts or the chessboard tables. So long as there are not open containers or drug use, the cops will let adults stay in these areas.

Also, I don't think that this is a Parks Department Playground, as it is not listed on the NYC Parks website. If it isn't, it most likely belongs to the Education Department, which likely has its own rules for use of its playgrounds. There are, however, federal laws that prohibit, and impose quite severe penalties, for drug dealing and possession within 1000 yards of a school.
