Probably unrelated since this was a group, but a man was beaten and mugged on Park Pl between Washington and Vanderbilt (article doesn't specify if it was east or west of Underhill). http://prospectheights.patch.com/articles/man-beaten-by-mob-on-park-place

the wallet and phone thing is a excuse. sounds more like they just want to beat someone. with beating someone could end up with different charges maybe. but with a fake robbery would be something else.

hell other parts of us could be a hate crime too, if it was bunch of white kids beating none white kids.

A friend of mine was in the area looking for an apartment. He was mugged at gunpoint for his iPhone at Park Place and Franklin Avenue around 7:30pm. He was waiting for the broker to show and as she called the guy showed up and mugged him.

The avenue is busy that time of night - I got home only minute ago. I passed 6 cops on my way from eastern to park place as well. Brazen stuff.

When the police catch them, the data shows that muggers usually mug pretty close to home.
