rib joint ...unfortunately I'm going to be at that JW marriott resort out in bumblefuck LV but not-LV territory. near that new red rock thingy. (I'm so articulate - am stuck at work for the kazillionth hour)

but sure, I'd love the info, JUST IN CASE! must have place to acquire meat!

    RANT ALERT!!!!

You mean the one near that old Red Rocks thingy which happens to provide some of the best rock climbing in the country and is now slowly being consumed by LV's never-ending quest to swallow up half the southwest (as well as drinking all it's water)? :x

well, I meant near the new red rock resort, which I'm guessing is fucking up said actual rock formation. I'm not big on nature, but I do think it's pretty.
and yeah, I don't understand why these hotel developers don't rip down some of the old an dprobably more inefficient hotels like the stardust instead of building off-strip. then again, walking into Vegas requires massive blinders. I can't think about what Al Gore would say to me.

I actually had some meat and cheese last night (yay).

After leaving Barbes, I needed some FOOD.

Went to Cafe Steinhof, and although I had serious regret at not getting spaetzle, I tried the meat and cheese plate.

    It wasn't bad.

3 cheeses - all pretty basic, but decent portions - goat, roquefort and brie (zzz, but ok, they can't all have feet-smelling cheese plates...at least it wasn't hard cheese)
2 meats - some sort of ham and another roast-beefy type meat + a pate (didn't eat that, but was impressed at the amount)

Plus - cherries, cabbage salad and radishes.

    $9 and I couldn't finish it.

I'm still holding out for my stank-ass cheese plate, but this was a decent way to hold me over.

    I looooooove, love, love Articinal.

That said, there are some other good cheese places - AOC Bedford, Craft/Bar (not a huge selection, but good stuff), Gramercy Tavern.

    mmmmmm mmmmmmmmmmmm

Try Les Halle on Park Ave and E. 28th. Their meat and cheese selection/plates are awesoume. They even go the stink route. Plus! you can order it to go and buy by the pound.

I know Les Halles. Eh. The downtown location sucks ass, but the Park Ave. one is better. So close to Artisinal that I'd rather go there

    <----picky, no?

Very! And that's a good thing. I must check out this Artisinal. I'm curious have you ever checked out the cheese store on 1st Ave a little north of the UN? I forget the name.

No, I haven't checked out that store........I'm afraid!

Fairway has a good selection, and so do several Garden of Eden stores.

Artisinal sells cheese too (expensive). You can eat at the bar and not spend a fortune. You get a menu of goat, sheep and cow listings with good descriptions.

Man, I think I may dream of cheese (smeared on Zidane or something, but still!)

I just got back from the store you're afraid of. It's called "Ideal Cheese Shop", on 1st Ave by E. 52nd Street. The cheese I bought stinks so much you'd think I'm carrying someone's head in the plastic shopping bag. I bought tarnie, two year old manchego, wood smoked gouda, stinky and runny French munster and brie de neaux and that tartolinamatzahbriehernameisrio (the greek caviar mixed with soy/cream) and French ham. Quite a store.

bierkraft, although expensive, has an amazing cheese selection. and they'll let you try a taste of any cheeses you want, so you can decide on the perfect cheese that you are looking for.
