Three more places near us want to become bars!

Racism is not exclusively something that whites do to non-whites. There is plenty of racism going every which way. In my experience neighborhoods are much nicer places to live when they are fully integrated - where everyone is comfortable irrespective of Race, Color, Creed, Age, National Origin, Alienage, Citizenship Status, Gender, Gender Identity Sexual Orientation, Disability, Marital Status, Partnership Status. This neighborhood was once exclusively Native American, then became Anglo/Dutch American, then Caribbean/African American, now it is shifting to more multicultural. Times change as do neighborhoods.

Walked by Tooker Alley yesterday and noticed that the name was now up on the door.

The bar also made the New York Times fall dining preview, complete with a photograph of Del Pedro. But the opening date has now slipped to "early October" - I hope that's not an ominous sign.

TOOKER ALLEY With this bar, Del Pedro, formerly of Pegu Club, pays homage to the Dil Pickle Club, a largely forgotten bohemian haunt of the early 20th century on Tooker Alley in Chicago. Though the original Pickle lacked liquor, Tooker Alley will not. Mr. Pedro calls it a “brown liquor house,” offering an array of whiskey-shot-and-beer combinations, and “extended garnishes” — side dishes that complement the drinks. Select evenings will be devoted to “the regional, musical, literary or artistic roots of a specific cocktail.” (Early October): 793 Washington Avenue (Lincoln Place), Prospect Heights, (347) 955-4743.

Tooker Alley through the window on Monday evening. Looks like the interior is 100%, perhaps the "early October" incorporates a wait for liquor license?

cool. however, i will go friday.

Went last night. No food yet, but the drinks are quite good. Service was a bit on the slow side, but they acknowledged that, so I suspect they will add staff to speed things up. It's a good addition to the neighborhood (unless you hate bars) and seems like it will be a mellow establishment.

Ah, but before all that, it was Buttafly. That location has been a bar since at least 2000. Five different venues in 12 years seems a bit much for one location.

Tooker Alley is in the process of talking to the Community Board in an attempt to use its back yard as a seating area.

Is there a place to search for all these liquor license applications online? Or do you go to the meetings in person for this info?

People that want a lic have to appear before the Community Board prior to the liquor authority processing the application. The CB then advises the liquor authority.

Note: This is different than needing the permission of the Community Board.

I get the emails which state which applications will be reviewed soon by the CB, but I rarely -if ever- go to the actual mtgs.

There is a mtg tonight, so they sent out a bunch of announcements about what they are going to talk about to try to get people to attend.

You can get said emails by emailing [email hidden], and asking to be put on the SLA email list.

Anyone make it to last night's CB8 liquor permit / outside café's meeting?

I didn't, but I have learned that the full CB8 board recommended that Tooker Alley be able to use their backyard in tonight's, April 11, 2013, mtg.

I predict this venue will soon be as packed a Weather Up on Vanderbilt.
