G Train

I rode the G to Fulton today and the S. Portland exit was still closed. Any idea when it's supposed to open?

i don't think they'r eopening it anymore. crime/quality of life issues in ft greene are up again. last night, my wife had to get a moe's patron to help her shoo a homeless person from the front steps of our apt.

this morning, the guy was there again. he stunk like 2 year old stilton cheese

When you say these issues are "up again," do you mean you think crime is rising in Ft. Greene? Seems better than ever to me.

Speaking of which, any idea why the C service at the Lafayette stop is so intermittent? Some days they're all over the place, others they're running 20 minutes between.

I think the C service is still suffering from that fire back in January. But in general I think it's pretty consistent. Comes every weekday morning at about 10 minute intervals, on the hour, give or take a few minutes.

Hrm, okay. I guess the heat just makes that 10 minutes seem like a lot more than it really is, or I have incredibly bad timing.

I've heard they want to wipe out the G completely... IS THIS TRUE??

I have definitely waited for the C for over 20 minutes at beginning-of-rush-hour times. On my way to the airport, of course. :evil:

Yeah, I've waited 20 minutes more than once in the morning, definitely. It's also very tough to tell when exactly the C shuts down and the A starts going local at night. I usually have to wait for a few A's to come by to finally figure it out. Different time every night, too.

The A runs on the local track when it's running local, so if you're at Canal or W 4th it should be clear. The general rule is after 10:00 pm it starts running local. Also, maybe you meant the evening, but in the morning rush hour only counts heading into Manhattan, not towards the airport.

I don't think so... I heard they were planning to use the G to test out a lot of newer subway technology.

Oh G train, there are so many things (good and bad) I could say about you.

Let's start with this: man it would be SWEET if they kept the Washington Ave exit open late night at the Clinton-Wash stop. It kills me to walk a block backwards in the station, then get out and walk two blocks back in the same direction just to get back to Washington Ave.

Yes it would help if late-night I remembered to get on the G at the back of the train but sometimes I'm a little drunk okay!?

I've been getting on the C train from Franklin ave in the morning towards manhattan for six years. The C trains are very spotty, sometimes theres a six minute interval in the morning rush and sometimes it's much much longer. I don't understand it either, it's not like they get stuck in traffic. It seems even worse in the evening going home. It's a shame too, it would otherwise be such an easy commute

Sometimes the wait is long, but thats what the G train is about, giving you some time to relax and take it easy. I love this train.

Yeah right!

I love to hate the G. If I'm going anywhere near Williamsburg or Greenpoint from home, I'd rather take the bus than taking the G or going through Manhattan.

What I find funny is that the other morning I was on a C that had one of those ad banners that said something to the tune of "How do you like our new high-tech cars? If you're not in one then the person who put this card here needs a talking-to."

Of course, I was in an ancient C-train car.

G's going to OPTO this month.

I'm not convinced losing a conductor will be a huge deal.

I'm more shocked that there's a G Train 'superintendent' and this man hasn't lost his job yet.

And why does the conductor sometimes say that there is a connection available to the LIRR at the Fulton stop? It's not. You clearly have to get out and walk to Atlantic-Pacific. Why would they say that?

I think they just do that because it's in walking distance. I don't think they announce it at Lafayette, but doesn't one of the exit signs indicate the LIRR?

Agreed, just like they announce transfers to Port Authority at the 42 St-Times Sq stop on the IRT. But it's still strange, because no matter where you're coming from in Manhattan, you're better off taking the 2, 4, R, or M train to get to LIRR at Atlantic-Pacific, and if you're coming from elsewhere on the C you'd might as well go to Broadway Junction or Nostrand.

It would be nice to add one more car to the G. That's not asking for much is it?

my biggest concern with the G at this point is how frequently there is construction on the weekends and the train runs in two sections.

2-section G Train = unridable.

there seems to be so much more construction on the G than on other lines. what is all this construction they're doing? Is the G especially run down? Or are they upgrading? what is going on?

I hope they are upgrading. This MTA system needs it. Especially after that tornado we had a few months ago.
