El Gran Castillo De Jagua

So last night I ordered from the joint around 7:30 and called them up around 9:30 because the food hadn't arrived. The guy on the other end suggested that the food was delivered to someone else and those fuckers were eating my food. How the hell does the food get delivered somewhere else and why would those people want what I ordered? He offered to take the order again!?!? I told him to forget it. I was tired of waiting. I guess business must be that good that he really didn't care.

What are people's recommendations for reliable takeout near the Brooklyn Museum?

That's surprising. Castillo is generally fast, cheap and reliable.

I have been in this hood for over 6 years and have learned to have patience, but I lost it with this one. I wouldn't have complained otherwise.

I don't really get delivery that often but when I have ordered from El Gran Castillo it's always been good service and timely. I've also had The Islands delivered. Prepare to wait but they're very nice and will tell you if it's going to take a long time...and it will. I've also had good delivery experience from Amorina.

When I order delivery, I'm generally on the phone if they're not there within the hour (except the Islands, but you kind of know it's going to be like that there before you order).

I've found Amorina, El Gran Castillo de Jagua, India Palace, and even Tom's Diner to be pretty fast on delivery (I sometimes order Tom's for breakfast on Saturdays rather than going in and fighting the crowds).

Does Amorina deliver? I thought they weren't going to do delivery?

I speak spanish but was planning to go in person. of course, I may just go to Tom's for eggs. I love being wishywashy on the board about personal decisions.

Sadly, I read this thread too late to lunch. Hope it was good. I'm off to try the Fairway!

As usual, it was good. I don't think I'll get the arroz con chorizos again, though, as it's not as good as other stuff I've had there (not enough chorizo for the amount of rice, which would have easily been enough to feed a family of at least 3 and maybe 4). Alafairnadia's fried shrimp sandwich looked as delicious as it always is. There's something about fried shrimp, mayo and hot sauce together that's just trancendant.
Now I have to lie down. 8)

Does anyone feel like going to a Afghan kebob place by CIA and Foster tonight? ZC'mom! Don't be a pussy and let the hot weather scare you.

As an ex-Park sloper, I was thrilled to find that Szechuan Delight on 7th will deliver now. We couldn't get them to come past underhill last year. And don't forget - Shane's delivers too!

The only thing I *might* go walking for tonight is a frozen margarita or three at Santa Fe Grill on 7th in PS. My summer drink.

I was going to try this place for the first time tonight. I got out of the subway at approx 7:50 PM, and there were about 4 plainclothes cops standing around the entrance. Not sure what was going on so I put it off for a law enforcement-free experience another day...

Sorry! I was busy at Radio City seeing Stephen King, John Irving and J.K.Rowling. go ahead, be jealous.

There are cops there pretty frequently. You basically get a cross section of everyone in the neighborhood at that place.

Well, the whole wearing-civilian-clothes-but-gun-resting-on-hip thing kind of weirded me out, heh...

Cautionary tale (but I was happy with what happened actually) about el Gran Castillo: I went there the other night and ordered takeout, beef stew (it's the best!), yellow rice, black beans. I got home and found that they had given me two beef stews and no rice. Which worked out perfectly - because hubby came home earlier than expected so I just told him to stop there and pick up some beans and rice on his way! We had dinner for two, for about $10. Thanks, Gran Castillo!

Now I need to look up exactly what/where this Gran Castillo of Jagua IS. I keep forgetting to. Anyone know off the top of their head?

    Subject: best delivery places

For good food delivery, our household is very fond of:

Joy Indian on Flatbush near Prospect Pl
    718-230-1165
    (hate the place on Vanderbilt)

The thai place on Fulton at Vanderbilt
    718-789-5931

    Yes, the Islands rules too.

I got takeout there for the first time ever today, had the cubano. Damn good, and cheap, but I would gladly pay a buck more for a little more meat and another slice of cheese.

Thats the beauty of the place - all you have to do is ask. My husband always tells them to double the meat and I dont think we get charged more for it.

Had this for lunch today. It was good, but I agree that there isn't enough chorizo... that, and I think that it makes a better side than main...

As I was waiting for my food, I saw them take out a spit of little roasted chickens(?) - can anyone confirm that they're as good as I imagine?!

Yes, yes, yes. Plus they send you some cilantro lime sauce that tastes fanfuckingtastic on the rotisserie chicken.

Yea I asked a lady who was ordering the rotisserie chicken - she said they're great.
