Just wanted to put my .02...we moved to DirecTV after getting fed up with Time Warner. Best decision ever. I already owned a TiVo, so after hooking it up to the DTV, we were all set.

(The only caveat is not having NY1 anymore. I was surprised how much we missed it, esp. for weather.)

Still, not having to deal with TW has been great. And DirecTV's customer service has always been pretty good.

I *believe* that both Dish Network and DirecTV have boxes that are also DVRs. Yes, it costs more up front, but I think it's worth it.

Resurrecting this thread because I'm thinking about getting a Cablevision DVR...

Those of you who have it, did you have them deliver/install yours, or do they even do that? If you schlepped out to the Cablevision store for yours, was it huge pain in the ass?

I had them mail it to me. I'm supposed to mail the old one back but have so far been too lazy.
it was easy to install. but. I had a few days of dodgy cable service b/c they basically already thought I had the new box so the old one was unauthorized. and when I got the new one I had to call in and walk them through what had happened. so, if you want uninterrupted tv service, take your old box and pick up a new box and schedule some time to discuss with cablevision.

My husband picked ours up at Cablevision with no problem. Im not sure if all DVR boxes are also HD boxes but ours is. We attached it ourselves. We did need Cablevision to walk us through the process and surprisingly it was pretty painless.

They do deliver and install, although you then end up in Cablevision service hell (only give you a four hour window, won't call you if the serviceman is running behind, etc). We did that initially because we were switching multiple boxes in our house, and the Cablevision place is behind God's back.

However when we had a problem with a box and had to switch it out, we picked it up and did it ourselves. If you can get out to Cablevision, I'd probably go with that option.
