The answer depends on your tolerance levels.

I had mice on my apartment around two years ago. A quick solution was found: Loads of glue traps strategically placed. The only problem was the disposal. I hated the idea of having the rodents die a slow death. The modus operandi I devised was to pur the trap in a black trash bag, take it outside and kill the animal with a big cement slab. I catched, killed and disposed of nine in five days.

Six months ago they appeared again. This time, for personal reasons, I could not use the glue traps and had to attemot to catch them first with humane traps. Big waste of money and effort. Not even one fell for them. The mice were becoming bolder and bolder. Disgusting. Poison was the only option left. However, I advise against it: They died beneath the floorboards. The apartment was inhabitable for almost two weeks.

Summary: Glue traps are the best but only if you can deal with the aftermath.

Um, what do you do when they eat the food off the traps without setting them off? And then they avoid the glue traps, avoid the rat zapper, and won't eat the delicious poison you put out for them? Somebody help...

Use peanut butter. It sticks to the trip so they can't just snatch it and run.

put it in the cracks and baseboards--the kind of places roaches hide. The acid disolves their nasty little exoskeletons a bit so they dehydrate and die. Just be caseful that pets don't get near the stuff...

you stick a semi soft chese into the hole on the snap trap. not peanut butter they can get that too easy. killed over a dozen in a month at my gf's old place. was totally against the snpa's until nothing else worked, and as you can see from the results, she had quite a problem.

Does anyone think dogs help keep the mice at bay as well as a cat?

and you have to keep doing it
even when it's not working, the house smells nice

You can get it at health food stores, or probably candle/essential oil type places.

MUST be used in conjunction with not making any breakfast cereal or other mouse treats available . . .

My loves-to-hunt squirrels/birds/cats dog never showed any interest in a mouse.

when i had a 2 dogs back in the farm. they didn't bother with the mice . they are practically useless in that field.

yeah, our dogs would just stare as mice ran across the floor. they knew SOMETHING was there, but they couldn't quite figure it out. drove 'em nuts, though.

the cats keep mice at bay just by smelling like cats, if you're lucky. in our old building, we were the only ones without a mouse problem. the mice took a sniff and moved on.

I also have had excellent luck with the plug in ultrasonic things. If they are pooping on your counters, they are more than likely coming through your stove... so that's where you need to plug up.

I don't want mice.

The cat, on the other hand, does. She's been training hard on her practice rat - and my forearm - and I think she's looking to strut her stuff on the real thing. I hope for her sake one (1) and only one (1) mouse gets in the place so she get her cat on...

Our problem has been going on for a while and the landlord has a pest guy come by once a month. The massive amounts of poison he put out were eaten, but there are still tons of mice. Holes were patched, still mice. Definitely coming in through the stove.

The pest guy said we have two problems: we're on the first floor and we have some really dirty neighbors where the mice are probably finding lots to eat.

A cat seems like the best solution but I'm allergic and really don't want a cat anyway. I do want a dog, though so I was hoping to convince the landlord that a dog might help with the problem I've had dogs but never when I had mice, so wasn't sure if they'd go after mice like they go after spiders and such.

I think the noise things will just push the mice to another apartment...

BTW, make sure that the Mother is an established mouser. Mousers are taught to hunt as kittens.

Who has a good mouser cat? Maybe you should rent it out to those of us who don't want (can't handle due to allergies) a long-term cat Maybe a good way to get free cat-sitting when you leave town. Everyone wins.

Hey, there is an idea! I have a great mouser. He's a huge cat but very small for a tiger.

Rat Terriers might be good mousers.

I recently bought the Rat Zapper. I caught (and killed) two mice in two nights. Since then, nothing. I think they have figured out that going in this box is a bad idea after seeing what happened to their brethren.

never heard of the breed of rat terriers before. must be some arcane breed.
